Florenco, Esq., to the pupils of Union Point Academy, Georgia, which wo find in Friday's Augusta Chronicle and Senti? nel. Study to be wisc; neglect not one tenet or admonition from your teacher which savors of wisdom -remembering that you aro to re? build this temple of liberty, and to lay again its corner-stone upon the surer basis of experience. Are you little ABC scholars? Let the tender root of elementery knowledge be deeply fixed in your infant minds; then shall the tree be green and flour? ishing. Have you advanced to the study of geography? Note well the geographical position, outlines and descriptions of your country, nor let it be said that you have only studied for an examination, or to make a dis? play for once in your lives; but that you have studied to maintain an ho? norable position among your coun? trymen. Are you warbling the sweet music of your mother's tongue? Then little grammarians, do not murder it with scientific touches of homo manufac? ture, but study it well-study, that ion may understand it perfectly, lave you advanced beyond the old field school programme, and entered the sylvan shades of Virgil and the heroic scenes of Homer, there to wit? ness the mysterious rites of ancient Greece and Rome? Let not a single taste at thePyerian Spring intoxicate the brain and. inflate your vanity, but drink largely, that your young names be inscribed among the savana of the world. But, beware! While-you improve and perfect the intellectual, do not discard the practice1 branches. Young ladies, U~ Ji your minds to think, while your lily fingers make ready work with tho tub, the spin? ning wheel, or cooking stove; and young man, lay a copy of Livy, Taci? tus or Euclid beside your plough handles, nor be ashamed to unite labor with study, for the (treat Jeho? vah has commanded, "In tho sweat of thy brow shalt thou eat thy bread." Oh! do not let our country degene? rate because her children arc com? pelled to take the place of her slaves; but elevate labor to that position which the Creator designed it should occupy, and adorn it with meehan i - cal skill and intellectual beauty. Thus elevated, wo shall give to busi? ness all it has of permanency by giv? ing to it all it has of honesty ; and by integrity in business, integrity in af? fairs of State, integrity in sentiment, in understanding and in reason, we shall eradicate selfish ambition out of politics, and keep the States alive by an honest patriotism. They have written to the North ex? plaining their purposes, and have enclosed for publication a list of the dead of the Federal army that sleep iu the grounds they intend to protect ; by enclosure and by such attention to tho graves as may preserve their identity and decent appearance.
