There was no Stock Board, this afternoon. Gold closed at 53*. NEW ORLEANS, July 7.-Cotton stiffer, with sales of 600 bales; low middling 826? Gold 52. MOBILE, July 7.-Sales of cotton, to-dav, 550 bales; middling, at 80c; middling and higher grades scarce, and bring quo? tations readily; lower grades more abun? dant, and relatively cheaper. Professor Agassiz says the general impression in regard to the Amazon* river is very erroneous, not only in regard to the climate of that rogion, which, he had been informed was un? healthy, but also as to its fertility. He found the valley of the Amazon un? commonly fertile, and its climate very healthy. It is his opinion that it will one day become the mart of tho world, supporting, in comfort, 20, 000,000 inhabitants. The Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions, according to the annual report, employs 800missionaries, col? porteurs and teachers; it ordained twenty-two last year, and the church membership, under its care, is about 1,200. Its receipts amounted to ^7,626; the expenditures to $510, 3?5-of which $40,000 is lost by the bigh rates of exchange. A man while digging a well on tho cerner of Union and Ohio streets, Troy, discovered what proved to bo a good-sized wooden box, which con? tained gold coin to the value of over #3,000, together with a numbor of spoons. The money had evidently boen buried there a great many years, as it was completely discolored and rusty. The Committee of Conference on t he Freedmen's Bureau hill sustained the views of the Senate in regard to the Sea Island cotton'lands, which, os the bill now stands, aro to be rc atored to their rightful owners. Even with this objection removed, it seems to be generally anticipated that the bill will be vetoed. It ia reported in Paris that Prince Napoleon has, with thc consent of the Emperor of tho French, placed Iiis <word at tho disposal of King Victor Emanuel, who has eagerly accepted the offer, and attached the Prince to Iiis own sta if.
