Dec THE STRENGTH OP THE STEVENS FACTION.-The full strength of the faction of confiscators in the House was yesbc lay brought out on the amendment to the Freedmen's Bureau j bill, moved by Mr. Stevens. The | amendment in question, summarily stated, was to declare the whole of the Southern States to be conquered ter? ritory, or more practically, to take overbody's property and give it to eveiybody else. The party of gene? ral confiscators numbers exactly thirty-seven, neither more nor less. That it should number even so many as this is a reflection upon our civili? zation. But, all things considered, it is, perhaps, a matter of felicitation that the faction is no stronger than it is. Let us invite all our readers to carefully scan the bst of confiscators.
