THE CHAMBER OF COMMET CE AND THE NEW POSTOFFICE.-An Informal meeting ol' the Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday at their rooms, at the corner of East Bay and Broad streets. The president of the Chamber, S. Y. Tupper, Esq., suggested to the members present that lt would be proper to celebrate the restoration of the Postoffice to the old site, ano, at his instance, a committee of three, viz Messrs. E. Sebring, W. C. Bee and F. W. Daw son, were nominated to wait on the Post master, Stanley G. Trott, Esq., andiuvit-j him to visit the Chamber. Upon the arrival of Postmaster Trott, President Tupper briefly expressed his gratification at the result of the labors of the Chamber, and thanked Mr. Trott for his kindly co-operation as well as for his acceptable administration of the 'justness of his department. Mr. Trott made a griceful reply, thankj&g tbe president most kiudly fer bis cordial greeting, and assuring the Cham? ber of his earnest desire to do all that in him lay to promote the prosperity of the city. ^We may say, in this place, that Postmaster IPott is, as he deserves to be, an eminent ly popular man in Charleston. His courtesy, fair-deating and official industry caus^: him to be respected by even the most zealous oppo? nents of the party to which he belongs. THE NEW ENGLAND SOCIETY.-The fifty secdhd anniversary meeting of this time-lion ored and wealthy society was held yesterday at the Charleston Hotel, at which the follow lng gentlemer were elected to serve ns officers for the ensuing year: Hon. The central figure was a marvel of taste, and the other ornamental pieces elicited the praise o! all present. The whole affair was got up and arranged in the hotel, and spoke wonders for the skill of the confectioners and other departments or the c.?i9ine. The numerous courses were served with order and precision by the attendant?, and the whole resulted In a success which add? ed new laurels to the host of the Charleston. The inquest la the case of Mrs. Dotterer. who died on the 3d of December, from the injuries she received by the railroad accident two days before, a short distance above Florence, has been proceeding lrom lime to time, and was concluded yesterday morning. The jury found that the deceased-'came to her death, on the 3d day o?
