TBS SOUTH CAROLINA RESUMES HER REGU LAF VOYAGES,-We learn from the advert?s e meut of the agents, that Captain Adkins and his superior passenger iron steamship South - Carolina, will resume her trips and sail from Charleston on the 10th August The cabins are large, with high ceilings, and all on deck, and travellers will doubtless take advantage of these great comforts'at this hot season of tfte year. The South Carolina makes two voy? ages hence during August, the first on the 10th aud again on the 24th. . LEAVE-TAKING.-The Rev. D. J. Qulgiey, the pastor of the Cathedral Chapel, who bas for some time been in delicate health, leaves Charleston to-day to make a visit to the Vir? ginia Springs, whose waters will, it ls hoped, restore him to full vigor. Mr. Qulgiey, by hu patient labor and unflagging energy, ai well as' by his devotion to their spiritual Inter? est, has made himself a great favorite with his , congregation, a large number of whose mern- | bera called upon him yesterday to wish him a pleasant trip and a speedy recovery. It need- , hardly be said that Ur. Qulgiey carries with , him the most cordial good wishes of our wbolo Catholic community. THE BOLTERS.-Notwithstanding the unpre . cedented cordiality of the reception of their nominees, as boasted by the lights of the Bing, lt seems that matters are not so harmo? niously settled after all. Ber. David Picket, C. Carroll and B, Price, prominent colored men, expressed themselves in? meeting of the "Bolters," at Columbia, as highly dissatisfied with the Ring aspirants for gubernatorial-honors. After declaring them Republicans, they proceeded to ex pr?sa*Aigh degree of dislike for the present Ring administration. They want honest men in office. ?he only way to get them ls to vote for Car? penter and Butler. A BOLD BORO LAR.-One of the most daring burglaries of the stealing season was commit? ted by a negro man on Saturday last, under the following- circumstances : Mrs.-was sitting Ia her parlor engaged in writing. Her position was such as to sc reen her from the view of one approaching the door. Suddenly a shadow was thrown ac ross the paper upon which she was writing, when, looking up, to her utter astonishment, she saw an athelettc -negro man, barefooted and without a coat but wearing a very large hat Being greatly . frightened, she questioned him as to his busi? ness^, at, the same time. ordering, him out or doora. ' RESCUKD FROM DROWNING.-A chUd of Mr. Rester's fell into the water at Bennett's Mill on Saturday, and was rescued from drowning by a colored boy. Inasmuch as the assistance j rendered was at a great risk of his own safety, the boy deserves credit. SALE OF CITY PROPERTY-GIBBON VS. THE CITY COUNCIL.-We are authorized to say that in consequence of an accidental omission at the sheriff's office, which would raise a doubt as to the purchaser's title, the plaintiff's attor? neys have postponed the sale of the securities levied upon until next sales-day, when, unless the debt ls previously paid, the 'sale will be positive and the purchasers will take an indis? putably good title. . THE BATTERY.-This favorite evening resort was well attended on Saturday afternoon. The exhibition of wearing apparel on the occasion afforded an argument somewhat at variance with the general plea of financial tightness. Some activity was noticeable among the small boats In this vicinity. There were several spirited trials of speed between them, which well evinced the strength of muscle as well as the nautical skill of their respective crews. THE GRAND LODGE OF FREEMASONS AND THE HIBERNIAN SOCIETY OF CHARLESTON.-The question of the liability ot these charitable as- { sociations to city taxation was argued bet?re his Honor Judge Melton, at Columbia, on last Saturday. The Judge made an order prohib? iting and enjoining the collection of city taxes for the years 1866 and 1869 from these respec? tive institutions. The Grand Lodge was rep? resented by General James Conner, the Hi? bernian Society by Hon. M. P. O'Connor, and the city by the Hon. D. T. Corbin. THE CITY DEBT CASE-THE MOTION FOR THE INJUNCTION DISMISSED.-The motion In the case of Gage et al VB. the Charleston City Council, for a preliminary injunction to restrain pay? ments of debts of the city contracted In aid of | railroads beyond the limits of the city, was heard ia Columbia by Mr. Justice Willard, of the Supreme Court, In chambers, on Friday and Saturday last. L. W. Spratt, Esq., of] counsel for the plaintiffs, was heard on Friday, and concluded his argument on Saturday. He was followed on the same side by Hon. J. P. Carroll. At the conclusion of the argument for the plaintiffs, Judge Willard, declining to hear the other side, dismissed the application for the injunction. He held that he was bound by tte decision in Copes vs. the Charleston City Council, (10 Richardson's Law Reports,) and that even aside from that precedent, the long acquiescence (twelve years) of all the parties convinced him that the injunction, if granted at all, should be granted only on a j final full hearing. The Court said that it was intended to express no opinion upon any other question in the case. CRUMBS.-A mass meeting of the Ring ad? herents Is to be held this evening, at White Point Garden. Mr. James E. Con vers, of Anderson, is dead. Beaufort, Che raw and Burlington have been made money-order offices. Pump thieves are becoming troublesome up? town. The Public Schools have closed for the sum-1 mer vacation, until the first Monday In Oe to-1 tier. Mary Gadsden having incurred maternal dis-1 pleasure, has sought relief in the House of j Correction. Upon the recommendation ol a trial justice. John Williams has selected an apartment in the city jail. Larceny and vagrancy were the arguments used to assist him In securing the preferment. We are gland to learn that the postoffice at Mount Crogan has been re-established. This was an old established office, but was discon? tinued during the war. Mr. James Kirkley has been appointed postmaster. , Edward Cochran, William Maxwell, Moses Jones and Jacob Butler, all colored, and the last named a peculiarly and particularly bold, bad sinner, have been arrested on the charge of petty larceny. The Mayor will dispose of ] them this morning. The alterations In the Ie.rge dwelling house on the South Battery, purchased some time ago by Colonel Lathers, have already made sufficient progress to show that the building when completed will be one of the most strik? ing private residences in the city. Both are violent remedies, and react violently, pro? ducing mansea, headache and prostration. They are often given when they are not needed; and not unfrequently they increase the irritation of the brain instead of soothing it. Probably in seventy-five cases out of a hundred IQ which they are administered, PLANTATION BITTERS given in moderate doses and at proper intervals wonld have the desired effect. Persons who find lt dil colt to compose their minds to sleep after lying down at night, or whose slumbers are disturbed by bad dreams, or are too briet to afford due nour? ishment, are advised to try the Plantation Bitters BC an anodyne; for this comprehensive medicine is not only a tonic and alterative, ?nt a delightful seaative-a "balm of hurt mlndB," as well as a revivifier of enfeebled frames. Its use, as a means of producing healthful sleep; involves none of the unpleasant secondary conse? quences of a resort to the former narcotics. PLE.-The vital and the muscular systems are entirely distinct from each other. A man may have the brawn or a Hercules, but if he ls deficient in vital energy he will not wear as well, or last as long, or be as healthy and happy while he does last, as the man of ordinary or even slender build, who possesses a larger share of this ani? mating principle. One of the greatest recommen? dations of that pur ^ vegetable lnvlgcrant, HOS TETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS, ls that lt In? creases the vital force of the system. No medi? cine can doable the volume or a man's muscle or thicken and vulcanize his thews and smews; but Hosteler's Bitters has an effect much more im? portant. Ita use promotes constitutional vigor. It reinforces the life-power, of which bone and smew and muscle are merely the Instru? ments, holding the same relation to it that ma? chinery does to steam. Let the slight and appa? rently fragile take heart; they may have more stamina, though far less physical strength, than the broad-shouldered athletes they regard with envy. To restore, to sustain, to Increase this stamlnal principle, which, when in full supply, is the source of health and the best guarantee of longevity, ls a special property of the famous re? storative. It ls not only a specific for dyspepsia, biliousness, Intermittent fevers, constipation, Ac, and a preventive of all diseases of a malarious character, but the best of all medicines for strengthening the constitution and awakening the powers of nature from whatever cause they may have become lethargic_juty29-6 D*C pS-A.
