The Jory returned a verdict in accord? ance with the foregoing facts. A SHOOTING AFFRAY. -A shooting affray oc? curred on Main street, Columbia, on Friday, between two boys-Mooney and Holloway. They were engaged in an altercation upon ?orne trivial matter, when Mooney, who ls about 15 years old, and a son of Alderman Mooney, drew a pistol and shot Holloway "through. The ball entered Just below the rib, and passed ont near the spinal column. It ls thought that the wound will prove fatal. Moon jy has been committed to prison. TBS SOUTH CAROLINA RESUMES HER REGU LAF VOYAGES,-We learn from the advert?s e meut of the agents, that Captain Adkins and his superior passenger iron steamship South - Carolina, will resume her trips and sail from Charleston on the 10th August The cabins are large, with high ceilings, and all on deck, and travellers will doubtless take advantage of these great comforts'at this hot season of tfte year. The South Carolina makes two voy? ages hence during August, the first on the 10th aud again on the 24th. . LEAVE-TAKING.-The Rev. D. J. Qulgiey, the pastor of the Cathedral Chapel, who bas for some time been in delicate health, leaves Charleston to-day to make a visit to the Vir? ginia Springs, whose waters will, it ls hoped, restore him to full vigor. Mr. Qulgiey, by hu patient labor and unflagging energy, ai well as' by his devotion to their spiritual Inter? est, has made himself a great favorite with his , congregation, a large number of whose mern- | bera called upon him yesterday to wish him a pleasant trip and a speedy recovery. THE BOLTERS.-Notwithstanding the unpre . cedented cordiality of the reception of their nominees, as boasted by the lights of the Bing, lt seems that matters are not so harmo? niously settled after all. Ber. David Picket, C. Carroll and B, Price, prominent colored men, expressed themselves in? meeting of the "Bolters," at Columbia, as highly dissatisfied with the Ring aspirants for gubernatorial-honors. After declaring them Republicans, they proceeded to ex pr?sa*Aigh degree of dislike for the present Ring administration. A BOLD BORO LAR.-One of the most daring burglaries of the stealing season was commit? ted by a negro man on Saturday last, under the following- circumstances : Mrs.-was sitting Ia her parlor engaged in writing. ' RESCUKD FROM DROWNING.-A chUd of Mr. Rester's fell into the water at Bennett's Mill on Saturday, and was rescued from drowning by a colored boy. Inasmuch as the assistance j rendered was at a great risk of his own safety, the boy deserves credit. SALE OF CITY PROPERTY-GIBBON VS. THE CITY COUNCIL.-We are authorized to say that in consequence of an accidental omission at the sheriff's office, which would raise a doubt as to the purchaser's title, the plaintiff's attor? neys have postponed the sale of the securities levied upon until next sales-day, when, unless the debt ls previously paid, the 'sale will be positive and the purchasers will take an indis? putably good title. . THE BATTERY.-This favorite evening resort was well attended on Saturday afternoon. The exhibition of wearing apparel on the occasion afforded an argument somewhat at variance with the general plea of financial tightness. Some activity was noticeable among the small boats In this vicinity. There were several spirited trials of speed between them, which well evinced the strength of muscle as well as the nautical skill of their respective crews. THE GRAND LODGE OF FREEMASONS AND THE HIBERNIAN SOCIETY OF CHARLESTON.-The question of the liability ot these charitable as- { sociations to city taxation was argued bet?re his Honor Judge Melton, at Columbia, on last Saturday. The Judge made an order prohib? iting and enjoining the collection of city taxes for the years 1866 and 1869 from these respec? tive institutions. The Grand Lodge was rep? resented by General James Conner, the Hi? bernian Society by Hon. M. P. O'Connor, and the city by the Hon. D. T. Corbin. THE CITY DEBT CASE-THE MOTION FOR THE INJUNCTION DISMISSED.-The motion In the case of Gage et al VB. the Charleston City Council, for a preliminary injunction to restrain pay? ments of debts of the city contracted In aid of | railroads beyond the limits of the city, was heard ia Columbia by Mr. Justice Willard, of the Supreme Court, In chambers, on Friday and Saturday last. L. W. Spratt, Esq., of] counsel for the plaintiffs, was heard on Friday, and concluded his argument on Saturday. He was followed on the same side by Hon. J. P. Carroll. At the conclusion of the argument for the plaintiffs, Judge Willard, declining to hear the other side, dismissed the application for the injunction. He held that he was bound by tte decision in Copes vs. the Charleston City Council, (10 Richardson's Law Reports,) and that even aside from that precedent, the long acquiescence (twelve years) of all the parties convinced him that the injunction, if granted at all, should be granted only on a j final full hearing. The Court said that it was intended to express no opinion upon any other question in the case. CRUMBS.-A mass meeting of the Ring ad? herents Is to be held this evening, at White Point Garden. Mr. James Kirkley has been appointed postmaster. , Edward Cochran, William Maxwell, Moses Jones and Jacob Butler, all colored, and the last named a peculiarly and particularly bold, bad sinner, have been arrested on the charge of petty larceny.
