It Is the custom in the re ligious asylums In the Levant, when a leper is presented, lo administer tho sacrament of extreme unction, and to perform it certain ceremonial of burial by proxy. This is perhaps a questionable severity since, In romo countries, leprosy Is not con sldered necessarily fiitnl. Moreover, the leprosy of razll and China is of n more innlignnnl type than that of Hawaii. No foreigner, of what ever station In life, Is exempt from the danger. Yot in Brazil, us well u t in China, many per manent cures arc recorded.
