Tho committeo on tho Nicolaon pavement have not reported yet. During the session of Council Tuesday night, several omnibuses passed and ropaased the City Hall, creating a good deal of noise. It was shrewdly surmised that a party interested in having tho pavement put down had hired tho omnibuses to drive back aud forth during tbo session, so aa to disturb tho members by the rolling over the stony streute, and thus convince them of the necessity of having the pavement. It is understood that two of tbo Aldermen who, on Tuesday laat, spoke upon the question of omploylng on engineer and a stenographer for the City Engineer Investigating Commit tee, deem thoir remarks of enough importance to bo be published in tho official proceedings. Tbo supporters of the amended Police bill claim that tho city would Bavo $48 per day if tho polico force was reorganized as the bill provided it should be. It ia proposed by some loyal men to change tho name of Secession-street to that of Dix, in honor of General John A. "if anybody hauls down tho American flag shoot him on the spot" Dix. Elsewhere will bo found a reply to the re> mark of Aldcman Mackoy, made in Council Tuesday night, that "tho Board of Piremiators hod troatod Council with contempt." Mrs. J. B. Doaoher, who was strack by Con stable Theodore F. Macke.y and stated that about tho last of August his father went Ashing with another colored man who had boon hoard to threaten his life. Thoy did not return for several days and a search waa made for them, and the body of tho old man was found floating in the water. It was boheveu that he had met with foal play from' his companion, and a magistrate was re quested to hold an inquest, but rofosod to do bo unless ho was paid six dollars. The colored mon not having that amount, buried tho body without having an inqaost held. Now, what is tbo true state of tho caso? Council passed this Mackoy ordinance, by which the oity baa to pay $10,800 additional for tho aupport of six colored ongiuo compa nies that cannot oarn tbo sixteenth part of this amount, and, in doing this, ouo company was disbanded tbat baa bcon in the department as an auxiliary for twonty years. This, howovcr, was dono I suppose, to strengthen this Alder man-general in hia future political career. Maybe it will. The Council bad tho power to pass the ordinance, and no disrespect was ever intended or offered. Immediately after tho passago of tho ordinance, several colored per sons, uukuotvn to tho Chief, called at bin resi dence and demanded the two engines_one belonging to No. 7 nnd the other used as a re serve. These onginos, with all tho city proper ty belonging to tho Fire Department, have always been hold by tho board, and uot by tho Chief. Tbo demand w >s rofused on tho ground that no official oomiuuuic,ttion had beon given tho board by the proper oflieer of tho City Council. On tbo following day, tbo Chief received a communication from the Mayor, in forming bim of tho pa* sago of tbo ordinauce, and aondiug by one of t lie parties tho ratified or dinance. Tbo demand was again refused by tbo Cine", and tho Mayor informed be would bo waited on the next day, wbiohbo was by tbo Chief and tho ohnirman and vice of the board. A very friendly intervie * was held; the Mayor agreeing that what bad beon done was correct, aud requesting that bis communication should be laid before tho board at its first meeting as official. This was dono, and tbc board passed a resolution requiring the Chief and clerk to deliver over to the Mayor and Council all the onginos, hoao rcols, hose and other articles held by them relating to the city onginea. This was accordingly dono by tbo'Chiefaod clerk, and no fault was found by tho Mayor. Appended to tho samo resolution was ono from tbo board giving (as thoir opinion) tho valuo of tbo fivo engines and the two thousand feet of hone at $4000. Tbo ongincs and rot la were valued at $400 ouch, the same prico paid by tho Stonewall and Young America Companies, and tbo two thousand feet ot hose at $1 per foot.
