We haye already noticed the faot that the Orangeburg News, the only respectable Radical papor in the Stale, is so far dis? gusted with the "corruption and iniquity" ot thc Rat ioal parly that it ia willing to Bupr - any organization whioh pledges itBol; .o universal suffrage and universal amnesty. By this our Orangeburg oontem porary did net mean that it wee inclined to allow the light of its countenance lo fall upon the averted faces of the Dem?crata of tho Slato. Ou tho contrary, it said that what it meant by universal suffrage was thai, everybody, should be permitted '?vote and hold oflioo." This was Radioal enough for a ponilent Republioan; but the Oraugeburg News has slightly changed ita direction, and in its last issuo prints stirring appeal on the subjeot of the pro? posed "Third Party." And yet it urges the peo pie of the State to form beneath the Repub lloan banner, aud "so further their own "material interests." In other words, the Democracy pf the State are to act as ? deo? dorizer or disinfectant to keep Radicalism and its cor ru p t ion from stinking longer in the - nostrils of honest men. They are to fur ther.their material interests by joining a party whioh has done its best to ruin our people, and wbioh, unless we a h ore it up, will soon tumble to the ground. It will, we presume, hardly be denied, even by the thorough-paced Radicals, that ninety-nine one-hundredths of the South Carolina'white men are Democrats or.anti Radioals. This is the important element to be considered in all "Tnird Party" cal eu lations. Upon the negroes a Conservative movement would produce little eflfcot. Throughout the State the machinery of the Union League would be employed to drive the colored people to the polls and to pro vent them from tampering with the com promise par'y. The out-and out. Radioals would bid far higher than the boasted Re publicans oould do, and when election day oame it would be found that the mass of the oolored menWotcd with the whites who had stooped moat nearly to the negro level. A large number of oolored men would vote the Conservative, ticket ; but they would do so out of the abundance of their oonfidenoe in the white Dsmoorats who wsre oonnecled with it, and not because it- was a compro? mise or coalition. These very colored men would vote a straightforward Demoeratio ticket as readily as they would vote the new nondescript offered to them. Il sermt then, to us, that in aiming at the fou Jd i tion of a third party the ohief objeot of the Orangeburg News and those who think with it, is to on eui an union of the white Demo oratB and respectable RepublioanB. As we have said, there is but a handful of respectable white Republicans in South Carolina. In what way are they so strong that they oan reasonably* ask 50 OOO white Democrats to abandon their political aile glanoe, and beqome members of the party against whioh they have been fighting for eight long years ? We oonfeaa that we do no*t sse a single stout plank in the platform of Conservative Republicanism . Tbs rea Simon pure Radioals are strong. They baye numbera, organisation, money, pa? tronage, and impudence unbounded. But the respeptable Republicans have no strength-in their party or out of it. The Orangeburg News, whioh we treat now as . he representative of tho small squad of; deoent Republicana, admits that the Radi? cal par ty is disorganising in oonsequence of tho knavery and ignorance of its mom- | hers. And we are asked to turn Republicans and make Republicanism respectable 1 THIS CARNOT BB. Let the Republicans who know and see tho Infamy of their par? ty abandon it, and join with the De? mocracy in tho struggle for constitu? tional liberty. We can givo them a hearty welcome. And whilo the Radioals strive to keep in power their pet'thieves and profli? gates and the "tag-rag and bob-tail," who are useful when a vote is "wanted and no "questions asked;" while the Radioals labor to uphold a system of public corruption and extravagant waste; tho Democracy of thc Stato will batUo for an honest nnd eoonom ioal State Government; for equal taxation; for tho proteoiion of all dusses from fraud or injustice; for the purification of our courts, and for the cleansing of our legisla? tive assembly. On the ono sido thero will bo Scott and Bower and the MaokeyB, and Parker and Jillson n vi the negroes Elliott, Whipper, Wright aud tho rest. On tho other sido will stand every respectable white mau in South Carolina. ' The "rcspeotable Republicans" must mako their own ohoioe. They must ohooBO for themselves between honesty and fraud, purity and corruption. THIRD PARTY T We will have none of it, when it is plain as daylight that the Third Party must be formed by the Democrats, who alone must bear the brunt of the bitter contest. We are asked to give up our every political as? sociation; to alienate our best friends; to array ourselves io opposition to the Demo? cratic dootrine of free trade, ?quat taxa? tion and an uniform ourrency, only that we may, perhaps, aeoure the support of fifty or a hundred white Republicans who, if they are as honest aa we believe them , to be, must soon come over and join our po? litical party.
