Finding tbat' he was detected, be ad? mitted to the sentinel that it was a key with which he could unfasten bis manacles. He further stated, no says the guard when he ob ta med his confidence by professed sympa? thy, that b6 expected other keys from which he sb mid be able to obtain one that would un? lock bis handcuffs, and if the guard should re? turn the other keys to. Mr. Yerger he should be well paid!- When the discovery was report? ed to the officer of the guard Yertrer said Mrs. Yerger had furnished him *ith the key. To? day, in the presence of Mrs. Yerger, ne denied it, and denied havuig said so. From various circumstances, it ie believed Hrs. Yerger was utterly ignorant of his possessing the key. The probability is that a bribe obtained it from oce of the guards, or, as Yerger has since stated, that he obtained it from a prisoner who swept out bis cell, on a promise of five dollars in the event of hip escape.
