The cable advices whioh reaohed us a day or two ago in regard to the aotion of the Liver? pool Cotton Supply Association, show that oar English cousins have but slender faith in the capaoity of the Southern Staies, under the free labor system, to pntec crops of cotton which shall be adequate to satisfy the wants of Lancashire. They feel the national necessity of providing at onoe a supply of some sort, sufficient in quantity, and upon the unfailing continuance of which they can absolutely depend. Hence they are again looking to India, and planning a systematic development of the raHway sys tem of that region, whioh sholl facilitate the transponation and export of Indian cotton, and so give the most effioaoious stim? ulas to its prodaotion. There are four great roeis already planned, in India, in support of which the aotion of the Cotton Association is taken One of these is along the valley of the In das; one to Tinnevelly and Triohinopoly; one to Verum goon, and the last into the Mahratta country. The argument urged by the friends of the roads is that it is a wise ohoioe of evils for her Maj e s ty 's Govern? ment to assist the conatruotion of these roads rather than allow cotton cuitare in India to die out, as it must do, if the competition of American cotton is kept up with the rela? tive advantages of the rival produoers un? changed; thot the reads oennot be built without auch oid; thot, being built, Indio will supply the Lancashire mills, ond speed? ily ond permanently relieve them from their present dependence apon the cotton fields of America. Though the resolution of the Cotton Sup ply Association in no degree binds the gov ernment to the ootion proposed, still, the uniform fovor whioh hos heretofore been shown by England towards the polioy of extending the railway system of India, when nothing more thon the prosperity and political stability of her Ariatio provinoe was involved, would seem to render it cer? tain, now that Liverpool and Manchester hove declared that the safety of the great home manufacturing interest is ot stoke, that the request of the association will be met with 0 ready compliance. This parasite is found in man occasionally; is said to constitute the essence of the disease known as the "mange" in dogs; and, according to Dr. J H. Salisbury, of Ohio, a great microscop? ist, is sometimes also to bc found in the pig. Dr. Salisbury advises, os a rreventive, to nave the meat thorougnly cooked, as tue boiling temperature, 212 Fahrenheit, coag? ulates albumen, and thereby destroys germ and protoplasm. All this may be very well; but we have our doubts about the great benefit said to be conferred upon a ham eating world by these discoveries of mag? gots asd other vermin.
