Ia accordance with a call published in THE NEWS, some three hundred colorea citizens assembled at the Military Flail last night, to consider the late not and adopt some resolu? tions thereon. The meeting was called to order by Peter Miller, and tbe dusky audience sank imo their erats. About six whito faces gleamed from the obscurity, and with tb\? ex? ception cf the police near tho clDor, were thc only p'ai** oit'zns present. T. G. Bolinda, colored, was called to the chair, and stated that tbe object of tbe meet- j ing was to deprecate tho late riot, and he put it to tho vote that all opposed to the object of the mcetiog should so signify theil ititenlion. A thundering yell of ayes was tho only re? sponse, and thc Rev. Charles Williamson, col? ored, then offered up a peaceful prayer. Holmes thea addressed tho meeting at some length, abating that the colored people were not to blame for the disturbance, aud were wrongly charged by the eft] press as the ag? gressors and abtiitora of thu rotv. On motion of Peter Miller, a committee of five was appointed to draft resolutions con? demnatory of the not, and to state that thc ne? groes were prepared to assist thc authorities in putiiu>* dowu such disturbances. There were, however, some turbulent spirits present, who did not believe in such lukewarm doctrine.?, and when the resolutions were pnt to tbe vote, gave vent to some em? phatic noes. One Philip la* lor, a jet black specimen of humanity, who looked fully cap? able of being one of the rioters, spoke bitterly against the resolutions as reflecting on the ne? gro population, and laid the blame of the riot on the Buldiera and the whites. When the press took this course it bnho >ved them to speak, an i while he advised moderation, he wanted both Savannah ians and Charles toni ans to know that they represented a party who v ere guided by principles of justice, and who accorded equal and exact privileges to all. After some remarks to the same purport, he proposed the following r?solutions, which were unanimously adopted, and the meeting adjourned : Whereas, a riot occurred io this city recent? ly, while a party of young* men from Savannah and others of thia city were engaged in a game of base ball playing, of which we are most heartily ashamed, and which is calculated to impress those at a distance from us with the idea that it ia unsafe for strengere to visit our city, whether invited or not ; and whereas, tve claim to ba law-abiding citizens, intensely interested in the welfare of tbe city and the commonwealth, and the preservation of the r?putation ot both lor hospitably to otrangcra; and whereas, an impression has, perbaps, been made opon the minds of some people, that the riot waa premeditated by a portion or our peo pie, and that it was prompted by a spirit of antagonism, if not hatred towards a class of our citizens and tboee from Savannah, and therefore unprovoked by any act of others ; therefore Resoiced. Wall, Hampton, A Kinlar, Howard, Holloway, colored, *t hall-past eight o'clock the Mayor cat in and called Conned to ord?r. Aldermni Collins, from the Committee Contracts for scavenger's work, recommend that the folowings bids bo a-cepted: Wardf and 4. M. Powers oid $3450; Wards 2 and J. Bonum, bid $2925; Wards C and 8, Patri Collina, bid $1548; Warla 5 and 7, 3. Tigh. b $li76. The report stated that these were t lowest ?esponsible bids made for doing tl scavenger work in the wards. After considerable discussion, during whi Aide man E. P. It is reported that there will be, to-day or to-morrow, a duel between Alderman Collins and Alderman Wall, colored, growing out of a dispute in Council meeting last night. Governor Scott has sent ten thousand rounds of ammunition for the Winchester rifles of the police force. In the meantime California has not been idle, and as San Francisco will be the probable port of entry, ber citizens are already stirring in the matter. Mr. Joseph, a native of Charleston, but for the past twen? ty-one years a resident of California, is now ia this city, and is prepared to make contracts aa a Ch?nete emigration agent. Ho is not connected with any cumpany, but proposes to brine; freo labor, turnisbii g acy number of hands wanted; nothing to oe paid until their de, i very, lhere will bo no tax on employers who simply obligate themselves to fulfil their contracts with tho emigran s. The agen: re? ceives his remuneration from the emigrants, with ihe agreement that it is not to bo paid until earned by tho Chinaman. Ibis plan has been adopted both to inspire confidence and to relieve the planter or con? tractor from advancing any sums to secure labor. Mr. Joseph is willing to pledge himself to furnish from 1000 to 60,000 Chinese at any point on the Atlantic coast ou ter ns above men? tioned. He is thoroughly conversant with the Ch ID ese language, and brings letters from the first men in California to Bbow that he is pre? pared to do all that he promises. Since his arrival in Ibe South he bas taken contracts tor 2000 in different parts of Georcria, and 200 at Selma Ala., besides having made arrangements which aro not yet closed. Rod? gers & Co., and Mr. Thaddeus Street, of Street Brothers 4 Co., representing the other half, this prominent piece of real estate will be fitted up and conducted to facilitate the rapid and satisfactory transaction of commercial opera? tions._ ONE OF THE NEWLY APPOINTED POLICEMEN IS CHABOED WITH BEI.NO A RINGLEADER IN THE LATE HIOT.-Night before last, Captain Hen? dricks, Chisf of Police, appointed a negro, named William Danell, a member of the Police force. The same day, during the examination, be? fore Justices Eauapaux and DeLarge, of the" parties charged with being engaged in the late riot, a policeman filed an affidavit against Dar? rell, which was substantially that on the even? ing of the not Darrell was observed among the rioters, and was beard to urge them to re? new their attacks. Further, that when the said policemen arrested one of the rioters, Darrel, with others, re-cued him. Captain Hendricks, upon being informed, yesterday, that thia charge had been made against Darrell, said that he waa not aware of j it mitti then, and if it were proven he should be dismissed from the force immediately after. It is stated that Darrell has not yet been put upon duty. BHOOTIKO OF A YOUNO MAN-WHO DID Ir ? About five o'clock yesterday afternoon aa Mr. George Cordes, who drives a mail wagon, was walking ?bout the depot of tbe Northeastern Railroad, he was shot in the leg. Dr. J. 8. Buist extracted the ball, evidently ahot from a pistol of large calibre. It bad entered one side of the leg just ab.ive the knee and pone nearly through. The wound did not prevent Mr. C. from attending to his duties as usual yester? day, but he will have to lay up for several dava. Mr. C. bas not the most remote idea who shot him, why it was done, or from wha". direc? tion it came. It will be remembered that dur? ing the lata not his mail wagon was assailed by the negroes for Bonn purpose best known to themselves, and he defended it, knocking down several negroes with bia loaded whip, and receiving several bruises from missiles tbro ?vii by them. At that time the negroes swore vengeance against him.
