Schwing, Philip Saxe and B. A. McMan us, and three negroes. At twelve o'clock the acousod were brough before Magistrate DeLarge, colored. The magistrate called the case of Benjamit Mills, when ko was informed by aooused' conns el, Mr. A. M. Mackey, that he had bee discharged by the Mayer. Lieutenant Lynoh, United States Army, the sued out a warrant for the arrest of Mille charging him with exhorting the negroes I riot. ? i* '.' The office of the magistrate being found to small to conduot the examination in, he ac journed to the City Hall. CHARLESTON CHAMBER or COMMERCE.-At special meeting of the Charleston Cbamb of Commerce, held yesterday at the old Sta Bank, at 12 o'clock M., a large attendance w present. First Vice President S. Y. Tupper called t meeting to order, and stated that he had co yened the Chamber at the request of ma: jf its members to consider a matter that w leemed of great importa coe to all interest in the preservation of good order and the i purity of property in our community., It had been suggested that the moral inti mee and aid of this body should be invoked jtay the proceedings of our City Council their proposed action in relation to the F Department. The bill before Counoil conto plating the establishment of a Board of Col? il F-remasters, having full and equal powa with the present constituted board, was i yarded with apprehension by oar admiral ind well regulated Fire Department, os w is by property-holders generally, as calcul?t to lead to misrule, disorder, aod perhaps t destruction of the depaitment itself. At a quarter of nine o'clock, the Mayor carno in and called the body to crder. A motion to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the last meeting caused some dis? cussion, Alderman Voigt thinking it very queer that the minutes were never read and confirmed. The motion to dispense was carried. PETITIONS. Alderman T. J. Mackey read a petition from the Sisters of Meroy. asking aid f-csa tbs city to carry on their institution, the petition being signed by twenty-five hundred citizens, repre? senting $15,000,000 worth of property, two thirds of the value of the real estate in the city. The petition was read by the Clerk, after which Alderman T. J. Mackey offered a reso? lution providing that tho Council should au? thorize the MayorjSo proceed at once to obi tain the distributive fudd*granted by the Le? gislature for the relief of the transient sick and poor in the oities au J iovrus of this State; and that $6000 o? the share of the city ($11,000) be given to the Sisters.
