Tho Mavor, Chairman of the Board of Health, made the following report, which waa adopted : The Hoard of Health, to whom was referred the communication of tho City Registrar, relative to intra mural mterments, beg to Bubmit tho follow? ing rcpo-1: This i : oject was introduced into City Counoil on the t .h November, 1858, and reforred to a sp?cial committee, who made their first report on the etti J armai y, 1859. The discussion of tho sub? ject ii. Council,'aa well as by tho community, iu tho form of memorials to Counoil, was continued from time timo U?til the 21st June, 1859, when tho Ordinance which now regulates burials within tho city was passed. Sinco that time our city has boen peculiarly exempt lrom epidemic diseases, and if experience is.to bo taken as a guide, it is not un? reasonable to conclude that tho Ordinance which was perfected after such repeated discussion and so careful a consideration of the subject, has at? tained the object in view, viz: the protection of tho health of tho city against improper burials with its limits. The several churches having cemeteries within thc city have themselves placed certain restric? tions upon burying in their grounds, which assist m tho execution of tho Ordiu&nso, and in addition to this, numerous cemeteries havo been established beyond tho city limits by both whites and colored, some of them bf very recent dato. Since the open? ing of these grounds a large cumber of our people havo provided themselves with lota in one or an othor of them, and the Board is of opinion that the tendency to continue doing so is such that burials within the city will have ceased long be? fore the tinife when, from the condition of tho grounds, prohibitory laws wouid bo necessary.
