Agreeably to the notice furnish ed by the Depart? ment, delegations from tho different companies assembled on the Citadel Green, at H o'clock, and under the command of Mr. RENNEKEB, vice-Presi? dent of the Pioneer, proceeded to the Northeast? ern Railroad to welcome the Florence'Fire Com? pany. The delegates'.were accompanied by MUL IXB'S well-known band, and the stirring notes pro? duced soon collected a crowd of admiring darkies, who accompanied Lie procession to the Depot.' At half-past 12 the whistle announced tho approach? ing train, and the procession was drawn up in front of the freight depot to receive their guests. The Florence Company was marched past by their officers, and were welcomed to the hospitalities of the Charleston Fire Department by Mr. J. E. In reply to. the complimentary welcome with which we' have been received, allow me, on the part of the Florence Fire Engine Company, tore turn our thanks to the Fire Department of Charles? ton. We are but young firemen, unskilled in the arduous duties we have undertaken, and with our swords unfleshed in the conflict with the fiery foe, against whom we are allied. We therefore do not come here with any hope of rivalling you in your exploits, but merely to enjoy your carnival-to see, to observe, to learn. I kno * of no better school of instruction to which we could come than to the Fire Department of Charleston. In conclusion, allow me to hope that the right hand of fellowship will be as warmly grasped between us in the future as in the present. When the speeches were concluded the lim of march was reformed, and the Florence engine was manned by the members ot' the Charleston com? panies, who escorted it to the German Engine House in Chalmers street, where it was housed for safekeeping. The guests were then invited to the Pavilion Hotel, where a slight collition was p*v pared for them, which was discussed by the tired travellers, and the escort was then dismissed, to allow their tired guests time to refresh themselves. The enginge was the old ?Etna of this city, but has been so renovated and improved hythe Flor? ence boys at the Northeastern Railroad Workshops that it is difficult to trace her identity with'the past On each end fancy brass filagree work has been added, and the position and management of the brakes has been considerably improved. A portrait of a young lady is placed on either side, and the inscription, "Our Florence," at once tells that the Florence firemen are favorites of the fair sex. The engine was named after Miss FLORENCE TTAWTBT; the belle of the District, and her pres? ence is sufficient to justify the firemen in adopting tho motto "we'll persevere." The trial to-day will test their process, ani they will have an opportu? nity of vindicating the motto, and of proving them? selves worthy of their fair divinity. L 0. O. P.-The 26th was celebrated by the five different Lodges and Encampments of Odd Fel? lows in this city as a Day of Thanksgiving iandi Prayer.
