[FOE THE WEEK ENDINO THURSDAY EVENING, HOV. 22.] COTTON.-The present week has fortunately, for a j time at least, brought to a termination tho heavy deolino Which for same days was a painful feature of the Cotton market, and although there has boon no important ad? vance, tho downward tendency of prices has beon check? ed. Factors generally feol strongly disposed to keep their stocks off tho market, and are under tho impre? ssion that tho staple wiU advance in price later in the season. The receipts for the past week amount to 5261 bales, the oxports to 6901 bales, and tho sales 1880 bales. The following is a statement of the transactions of the week: On Friday the falling tendency of prices which had characterized tho provious week still continuod, and tho rates dropped during tho day }? to lo. ty ft., tho transac? tions amoMnting to 174 bales; Low Middling soiling for 99@30c, Middling at 31?31J?c, and Strict Middling at ??o. *ft. On Saturday, holders having in many cases withdrawn their stocks, the market stiffened, but in consequence of the unwillingness of setters to meot buyers unless at an improvement, tho operations of tho day woro only 100 bales at unchanged prices. On Monday the tenuess of holders, who were placing ' but a light stock on the market, compelled bilyera in some casos to pay a half cont advauco to fill their orders -the sales amounting to 288 bales, Middling Cotton being quoted at 31@32c. and Strict Middling at32>?c. ty lb. On Tuesday, in consequence of tho firmness of faotors, buyers had to operate at full rates-tho sales being about 464 bales during tho day. On Wednesday prices wero harder, to tho extent of pro? curing sellers outside quotations. The transactions ?mounted to 265 bales, Low Middling being quoted at 80o., Middling at 32c. and Strict Middling at 82>?o. ty lb. Yesterday thero was an activo demand, and during the early part of the day prices were quite firm, but at a later hour; under tho news of a heavy fall in gold, the rates in ?orne Instances fell off a half cent ty ft. The prlceB have been irregular, but the rates yesterday were about 10J?@ll??o. ? lb for fair to good Carolina, and 10>?c. ty ft for inferior-tho latter rate being nominal. A choice J lot would, perhaps, sell above our highest figures. NAVAL STORES.-The receipts of Rosin amount to about 500 bbls., which was sold mostly on arrival at $6a$7 ty bbL for No. 1, and $5 50 for No. 2. There has been only a Ught receipt of Spirits; about 150 bbls. were dis? posed of at 66a87c. ty gallon. NO transactions in Crude Turpentine or Tar. HAY.-A smaR lot of about 125 bales North River con? stitute the receipts of tho week. We note transactions i in this class of Hay at $1.50 ty hundred. There have been no receipts of Eastern. We quote North River at | tL60@$L65 per hundred. OOBN.-There has been received during the week about 6000 bushels, all from Baltimore. Sales of 2500 I bushels Baltimore White took place at $1.50 ty bushel, weight, bags included, and 1500 bushels do. on private I terms. We learn of no largo transactions in other do deeoriptions. Tho demand is quito light We quote | Baltimore White by weight, In sacks, at $1.48@$L50 ty bushel. OATS.-There has boon received during the week about 3000 bushels from Baltimore. We quote the article at 82o. ty bushel, weight, afc which price transactions have taken place. FLOUR.-The market is fully supplied with most I qualities. BACON.-Thero is but little demand for thia article, and with a good stock of all kinds on the market holders find it diffloult to sell in large quantities. TIMBER AND LUMBER.-Thore is but a light stock of these articles, but wo learn of no change in prices. MOBILE, November 17,-COTTON.-If tho commercial reporter of tho Press Association at Now York.could have known Inst night what a sensation he would pr duce in this msrko-. to-day, he would have doubtless thought more than once before telegraphing his estimate of that markot yesterday. The single word "stoadier" produced | a perfect revolution in prices, and factors generally ac? cepted it as an evidence that "bottom" had boon "touchod," and that tho anxiously looked for turning point had been roached. At any rato, there was a general "strike" for higher prices, whioh even tho "duU" roport of noon could not move them from. Middlings at 31a32 was the ultimatum, and purchases could only be effoctod on this basis. Notwithstanding a good and gonoral demand oxistod from early in tho morning, and brokers woro welj supplied with orders, only 760 bales changed hands. Tho Liverpool markot seems to hold steadily at 14d, with no indications that wo can seo at present of an immodiato chango for either bottor or lowor prices. Tho Now York telegram informs us that Cotton is dull thero to-day, "uudor tho decline in gold." If this is to be tho oloment that is to rule tho price of Cotton in New York, prices will bo as variable as tho whims of the Bulls and Bears of WaU street, for there seems to be no fixed principle by which tho prico of coin is governed thero now. MONETARY AND FINANCIAL-The offerings of Domos Uo Exchange havo boon light to-day, and with but an ordinary demand; transactions havo been on a limited Bcalo. Ranks and Bankers continuo to check Now York Sight at par, and buy outside bill3 at% discount. A very light business is reported in Gold, which closed at 142*143. Tho market is entirely dependent upon hour? ly fluctuations in New York, and in tho unsettlod condi? tion of prices thom it is difficult to give established rates here. Sterling has boon dull throughout tho day at a decline on yesterday's prices, in sympathy with Gold. The quot? ed rate is 160. Transactions light. NEW ORLEANS, November 17-COTTON-Tho market I opened this morning subject to the same influence that ? prevailed yesterday, and, although the demand has been of a more liberal character, still the movemont has ex? hibited little activity at any time of tho day. Factors generally appeared to be loss willing sellors, not a few of thom covering up their samples, while the majority of buyers evidenced little desire to operate, proforring to await later intelligence. Under these circumstances the sales were of a restricted character, comprising at the close only 2400 bales, taken by cloven brokers, at prices approximating tho following quotations: Good Ordinary, 29a30o; Low Middling, 31a32o; and Middling nominal at I 34c.
