COURT.-The regular Fall Term of the Court Sessions, for Sumter District, as noticed in c - . last issue, was convened at this place on Tuesd last, and adjourned on Friday, his Honor Jud Aldrich presiding. Howard, and coi prises about seven hundred men.-Ibid. Mr. William Caldwell, an esteemed citizen of o District, died at his residence near Cokesbur during the past week. Mr. Caldwell was one ' our best oitizens, and was universally esteem* and respected.-Abbeville Press. [From the Haleigh Sentinel.] The completion of tho roads already prcjeota in the State will, doubtless, be strongly urged npoi the attention of the Legislature. The system o internal improvements, so auspiciously begin years ago, should be consummated, in order tha the full b.nefits of the system may be enjoyed and to save what hos been expended. This ie cs peoiallyso, in the case of trie western Extensioj Railroad and the Wilmington, Charlotte and Ruth orford Road. The same laudable object is sought to be effect ed by the people of Fayetteville, in their anxietj to extend tho Coal Fields Road from Egypt tc some point on the North Carolina Road. Tho bene? fits to be derived from that extension may depend much upon the point of terminus upon the North Carolina Railroad. We are glad to Bee the interest manifested by the people of Greensboro' and ol Caswell upon that subject. We have also heard it said that the people of Sahsbury feel some con? cern upon that point.' That interest indicates a rising spirit of enterprise in the State. But it can hardly be expected that three branches from Egypt can be projected. The friends of that en x terprise ought therefore to look well to the settle? ment of that question. ' ARREST OF THE RAILROAD ROBBERS.-The Louis? ville Courier ot the 15th says: Wo aro glad ta be able to chronicle the capture of tho gang of outlaws who robbed the passenger train on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad a short time since, in such a daring manner. Since this affair, the authorities have been on the alert, but failed to do anything; but what the authorities seemed unable to accomplish, our law-loving citi? zens took in hand themselves, and with what suc? cess the sequel shows. The citizens of Franklin, Ky., and vicinity, having been on tho watch for some time past, were made aware yesterday that the gang of robbers, under the. leadership of one King, wore in the vicinity of that town, and turning ont in short order, they captured King and six of his party. About the same lime yester? day evening, as the train from Nashville, being be? hind time, was on its way to this city, it ; was com? pelled to run very slowly and carefully, being run? ning on the time of another train. When be? tween Rocky Hill and Bristol station, some of the passengers discovered four men in the vicinity of the train whose movements ex? cited suspicion. Some of the passengers there? fore went out and arrested them, and throe of them were identified by passengers on the train as being with tho gang who robbed the train a short time ago. Three of these, whoso names are J. P. Jackson, David Russell and Jake Smith, were brought to this city and committed to jail. The other man "was let go. A dispatch received last night by Mr. D. W. Rowland, assistant superintendent of tho L. & N. Railroad, stated that King would be sent up here from Franklin to-day, and that the others would bo sent up on the late train last night. TheBe men arrested are supposed to embrace near? ly all the gang. H there are any moro, they, wo hope, will also soon be overtaken and brought to justice. We trust that the authorities will prose? cute these rascals vigorously, and give them the extreme benefit of the law, as they aro not only guilty of robbery, but attempted murder, in throw mg the train off tae track and . thus endangering the lives of all the passengers upon it. EXCHANGE OF COMPLIMENTS.-The following in? terchange of compliments between tho Cincinnati Comin&cial and the Chicago Journal, as to the merits of their respective cities, is rather amusing. The Commercial says : "Chicago is a superficial, 'showy place, and tol? erably active m the summer/but in the winter she IB ice-bound and stagnant, while Cincinnati, full of manufachuing industry, goos rightson summer and winter. All there is of Chicago is above ground. lhere is not a cellar in town, and cannot be, while in Cincinnati, in addition to that which meets tho eye abovo tho sidewalks, we have a city under ground. There is more storage-room occu? pied, too m the collars of Cincinnati than in all the elevators of Chicago combined." Whereupon tho Journal replies : ' "We cannot return tho compliment for Cincin? nati. She is neither ?superficial, tolerably active nor showy,' either in summer or winter. Cincin? nati was a 'toleraby active'place whenBhe was 'possessed' with swine, but ever since she has been granting over her more prosperous noiph bors.
