Sam was as mum ns a pantomime and just as soon as he was rendy him and Beckie got tied. "Tiley lived on a farm, and everything went on smooth for about a year, and it came to hog biltcherin' time. Sum got all ready to have thc usual party for tho occasion, and just as he waa sharpen in' up tho knives Beckie came nut and said : 'Sam, I'm goiu' home.' Sam protested in his quiet way, but it was no use, so he said he'd get a man to row her across the pond. It was about a milo over. She said : 'No ye won't ye'll row me over ye self!' Sam told her he couldn't, and Beckie fired up and said: 'Then I'll drown meself.' Sam said he'd go with her if she wanted to do that, HO the boat was got ready, she got in, and they rowed out till tho water was twenty feet deep. Then Sam stopped and said : 'Well, Beckie, this is a good place foi ye to drown yeself !' She didn't ? nen her mouth. He waited awhile and t* en said: 'Come, Beckie, I'm In a hun/ to get back.' She never looked up. Sam put down the oars, caught hold of her nr.il titched her in. Shu grabbed for thr oat, hut he wouldn't let her git near it. When she was almost done out she said : 'Sam, iel me in that boat aud ye'll not bear anything moro from me out o' tho way.' "So he pulled her in, and they went back home. She changed bor clothes and entertained the guest?. They're now nearly eighty and you uover saw a happier old couple-did you?
