Mr. B. D. Lamar of Beech Island called at the Rkuordek olliee yester day and says that Wallace Bailey the Augusta negro who is reported to have found on Beech Island an Indian jar containing $550 with which he bought two lots in Augusta,was form erly in his employ as ginner, a ad that he also worked for others in that neighborhood but that he never heard of tin* discovery of money by any one on Beech Island until Ids attention was called to the statement of the Augusta Chronicle. Mr. I.-umir states however, that about four years ago some one made a large excavation at the roots of a ce blit that he does or for what it was done. The tree has since died and was dug up last year. Whether this excava tion has anything to do with Wallace Bailey's $550 can only he ascertained by a statement from Bailey himself. Mr. Lamar says that all that is attrib uted to Bailey in regard to his ability to catch fish with his mouth and hands while under the water he believes to be true.
