PLEASED WITH THE CORN SHOW Demonstration Agent Blair Thinks Ev> erybody Should Attend. Editor Torkvllle Enquirer: I returned, on yesterday morning, from Columbia, S. C., where I have been attending a meeting of the farm demonstration agents and visiting the National Corn exposition. While our meeting was being held It was decided by the exposition authori- j ties to continue the exposition up through Friday, February 14th, and in order that the news be spread over the . entire state the authorities asked us, asj " <-> mir rcsDective county I papers to kindly say something through their columns, In their next issue. As to my personal opinion of the Corn show I think It Is one of the grandest r things that I have ever attended in the way of an agricultural display or exhibit, and my opinion is the opinion of all those who have attended. A great many (as well as myself before I .attended same) have an idea in their heads that it is merely a corn show and nothing else, but such Isn't the case; as it is a show of every kind of plant life that grows In the twentyseven states represented. Besides the plant kingdom being shown, there is a grand display of all kinds of farm machinery good road apparatus, dairy and mill machinery. There is also held every day oractical and theoretical demonstrations of improved methods of farming. To some it may seem that I am exaggerating but I think it Is the grandest agricultural show that South Carolina has ever had; not excepting the exposition which was held at Charleston some years ago, and as it has been extended another week I don't think it will be anything but wise for evenSouth Carolina farmer to attend. I feel safe in saying that we will never get an opportunity of seeing such a great - show so near our doors again soon, and owing to the fact that it was only through fame of a South Carolina boy that the show was permitted to be held in Columbia, I think it is the duty of all the farmers and business men of| the state to honor it (the exposition). < with their presence before It will have closed on next Friday at ? n. m. Ther~ \ are things at the exposition that I would never have seen had I not gone, and it is not in book form as some farr"or? say but practical and the real article. Thanking vou If you will make mention of the show In your next Issue, I am. Yours truly, Jno. R. Blair. ? Columbia Record, Friday: "Your committee also had a meeting in Charleston and as a result of that testimony and other testimony along the same line taken in Columbia, we are convinced that a regular system of graft exists and has existed for years in that city In connection with the work of the dispensary constables," says the committee appointed by the last general assembly to investigate the charge t made by Governor Blease against the Ansel winding-up commission and former Attorney General Lyon, in their report filed with the senate this morning, and ordered printed In the Journal. The majority report is signed by Senators Carlisle, Sullivan and Clifton and Representatives J. J. Evans and W. L. Daniel, while a minority report signed by Representative Cary agrees In the findings of the majority with the exception of the testimony taken in Augusta and afterwards in Columbia which Mr. Cary does not think is relevant. The report, with the exception that B. F. Arthur when a member of the Ansel commission overcharged the xhorcvi made by H Lit LC, oa > o vi. v??v _ . Governor Blease, that they are "Wholly unsupported by the testimony and therefore without foundation In fact." Attorney General Lyon, and the members of the Ansel commission Dr. W. J. Murray, chairman, J. S. Brlce, Avery Patton, John McSween, A. N. Wood, are exonerated of all charges made against them. The committee thinks that Thos. B. Felder misled them In his statements about what his testimony would show when the committee went to Augusta. Ga.. last summer to take his testimony. They, however, went to Augusta as they thought something would be gotten from Felder and as he would not come to the state because he feared arrest and possible assasslna. tion. But his testimony established nothing, in the report of the committee. The majority of the report Is a 1 repetition of the charges made by the ' governor and the refuting of them section by section from the testimony adduced. all of which Is made a part of the report. ? Mr. Joel. K Branson, prominent throughout South Carolina for many years as a prohibitionist, and in 1906 a candidate for 'governor, dropped dead at his home five miles from Sumter last Saturday.
