? Nashville. Tenn., September 23: Firm in the conviction that the world will come to an end at 10 o'clock next | Friday forenoon, a colony of about 300 members of the denomination known as "the Latter Reign of the Apostolic Church," are spending what they believe to be their few remaining hours in prayer, song and exhortation & The scene of their religious ardor is "Ashdod," a little wooded chapel on the main turnpike between Boston and Plymouth in this town. Worldly tasks have been laid aside that the faithful may prepare for the millennium. The services are practically continuous. In all branches of the worship the congregation participates, singing the hymns with fervor and in terruptlng prayer and exhortation wun pious ejaculations. Occasionally the services at the chapel are suspended long enough to permit a trip to the neighboring pond, where the converts are baptized. To feed the crowd that Is attending the meetings, a big tent has been erected near the church, while the houses In the neighborhood and even the church horsesheds furnish a lodging for the people. None of the faithful appear to have a shadow ^ of>a doubt that the world will end Fri^ day forenoon. When asked what they will do if the expected event does not materialize, most of them refuse to entertain such a supposition. Some suggest that a love fe?Mt be held for ten days or so, while others still say I that if the millennium does not come on Friday It will come next year at the same season. J AT THE CHURCHES. V New York, Sept. 23.?Spot cotton closed quiet, 40 points higher; middling uplands 13.55; middling gulf 13.80; no sales. Futures opened steady and closed strong as follows: Sept. 13.34; Oct. 13.36; Nov. 13.36; Dec. 13.39; Jan. 13.35; Feb. 13.36; March 13.44; 4 April 13.45; May 13.49; June 13.44; July 13.43. New York, September 23.?New high records were made in a sensationally active and excited cotton market to% day with prices selling over $2 per bale over the closing figures of last night and more than 36.50 a bale above the low figures of last week. December contracts sold at 13.42 and May touched 13.51, closing at 13.39 and 13.48 respectively, with the tone strong and the general list showing a net ad* vance of 36 to 41 points. The opening was steady at an advance of 2 to 6 points on steady cables and the market Immediately became active and excited owing to the character of the news from such points In the path of the recent storm as have yet been heard from. The absence of detailed reports from a large part of the storm area suggested such a demoralization of wire facilities as to indicate no less severe damage, while bullish enthusiasm was increased by the census report indicating an American consumption last year of over 5,000,000 bales. Heavy realizing held the advance In check at first, and caused slight reactions from time to ~ time, but there was an overwhelming demand from practically all directions, and the high point was reached in late trading when active months were 41 to 43 points net higher. Only slight recessions occurred later and the general buying movement continued right up to the close while western, souther ern and local bulls were aggressive in supporting prices. Rumors that southem bulls have practically cornered October and that a big local house controls an extensive line of December contracts, together with reports of a scarcity among domestic spinners and active "calling" of cotton for forward shipments were all factors in the late trading, while it was reported that the ? grain following of one of the big Cnicago traders was switching over from wheat to cotton. Southern spot markets officially reported early were ? to hicht-r Pnimlar pstimates of the crop have been reduced as a result of the reported storm damage and ^ a very bullish government condition report is expected on October 2d. Receipts at the ports today 35.000 bales against 37.605 last week and 44.662 last year. For the week 300.000 bales against 241.526 last week and 286,179 last year. Today's receipts at Houston 13,954 bales against 11,507 last year. SALE OF PERSONALTY. AT her late residence In Yorkville. <>n FRIDAY. OCTOBER 1. 10 o'clock a. m..
