A few days ago the San Francisco Examiner denounced the story as a lie that was manufactured out of the whole cloth. It is a well known fact that W. R. December 10 102 s tf WHEN YOU HEAR THE TERROR. I ZING TONE OF THE BIG BELL IN the court house tower, it is needless to ask its meaning, for the unconscious shudder which has all but paralyzed your senses, makes you involuntarily scream "FIRE !" 'i hen you think ol your own home and your mkt iajslkaack POLICY, a matter which should have been attended to long before the big bell rang. If you have no insurance see us at once and let us write you a policy in the Old Reliable Continental Insurance Company of New York, one of the strongest insurance companies in the United States, having gross assets of ?7,51<>,82S-.25, and reserve for re-insurance in force of $4,191,020, and it costs no more to have your insurance written in the Continental than in a smaller company. The rates are the same. See us. S. M. cV L. GEO. GRIST, Agent. JOSH BILLINGS SAID: That "some folks git niarriee and then sets down and think: the matter over; while agin ther< iz uthers who sits down an( thinks the matter over first anc then don't marry." Now yoi think, and at that think quick! Comfort is one of the greates aims of the human family; while thoughtlessness is one of the * i i ? -1 * greatest arawoacics to tnat ena. The Christmas holidays are here, and as a rule many hundreds o: dollars will be spent in "holida> trash" by parties who can ill afford it?who in fact have no comforts about them?not sufficient clothing for themselves and families, and all because "others dc it," when the circumstances anc conditions are entirely differenl from "others." And after theii money is all gone and the shiver) cold world begins to brush up against their better judgment anc conscience, it is then they will "sit down and think the mattei over." My friends, this mattei should be thought over first?before your money is burned; yes, even before you get the matches. Think of how your wife woulc like to have a nice Cape or Cloak pinned to her stocking ! Or, ever mamma or sister would notobjecl to the same treatment ! But, ol course, they will love you just as much if you spend the money or some one else's sister ! nut, my friend, whose heart would you rather see light ? Half a dozen pairs of nice stockings would please mamma or sister, and' Strauss is headquarters. A nice pair of blankets, a nice table cloth, a dozen nice doylies or a dozen nice towels, would nol hurt their feelings. Half a dozen nice warm undervests or a nice pair of shoes would make them love you no less. Think aboul this matter before it is too late ! Then there is papa, or brother, whose feelings would not be hurt if you would present them with a collar, cravat, hat or suit clothes, for a Christmas present and you may make up your mind that H. C. Strauss will allow all his customers and friends a liberal pei cent, in assisting in bestowing these worthy tokens of respect, affection and love.
