After supper, buggy riding, with all its pleasures, was again fashionable, and was carried on until the orb of day had soughl its resting place behind the western hills Then part of the guests wended their way to their homes, while the remainder reassembled in the house and enjoyed themselves in sociable conversation. The pleasures of the evening and the hospitality ol of Mr. White will be long remembered by those present. h. n. a. Correspondence of the Yorkvllle Enquirer. NOTES FROM WESTERN YORK. Beaver-Dam Creek, August 27.?Twc heavy rains have fallen In this section since I wrote last, doing some damage tc the crops, though not of a serious character. This section will probably make enough corn to meet the requirements oi the people, and as yet the cotton crop has not seriously suffered. - - * * nnm tnmi'nn oumu 01 our mriuors aio uun xuiuiu^ under their stubble land for a wheat crop, and from the advantages to be derived from early fall plowing it is hoped thai many more will adopt the same plan. It is also hoped our farmers will give more attention to the making of manure on theii farms, as a measure of economy and obviating the expense of commercial fertilizers. The debating society which meets regularly at Mr. J. A. Barron's school house, debated the question at the last meeting, "Which is worth the most to the United States the cotton or grain crop." After an interesting discussion, in which two young ladies joined, espousingthe cause of cotton, the question was decided in favor of the grain crop. The society will meet next Saturday at 2 P. M., and discuss the question, "Which has been treated the most inhumanely by the whites, the Indians or the negroes?" J. c. b. CROPS are good, rain Las ceased, and the prospects of the country have never been brighter. After mature deliberation, you say, with a few exceptions, yes. Then why is it that you persist in riding in the old rattling buggy and feeling as poor as a church mouse, when you can buy of me a handsome turnout at a reasonable price, ride comfortably and feel as rich as Croesus ? There are few things tilat have a more depressing influence on a man's feelings than riding in a rickety buggy; while, on the other hand, there are few people who are not susceptible to a feeling somewhat akin to pride, when they ride out in a nice new vehicle. So come one, come all. I have Buggies that can be bought by the poor man, and I have Buggies, Car riages, fhsetons and Suikeys, that will make the most fastidious smile.
