Religious Revivals in Mobile.?At the St. ' Francis-street Baptist church in this city, under the pastoral charge nf Rev. Powhatan K. Collins, there has been a protracted meeting, attended ' nightly by large congregations, for nearly three j weeks, which has produced very happy results. ! On the first Sabbath in this month there were 11 baptisms, on last Sabbath we understand there were seventeen, and since the commencement of the meeting there have been no fewer than thirty conversions; all, or nearly all the subjects of these conversions were adults. The interest in the meet-1 ing seems yet to be steadily increasing. A very interesting protracted meeting has re- j cently closed at Wesley Chapel, (Methodist,) of . which Rev. T. C. Weir is pastor: and one also at j the 4th Presbyterian churches. We see in the Evening A'eics that at Bethel church, on Water-sfreet, unusual interest is being manifested on the subject of religion, and there is preaching every evening. Ministers of all denominations are invited to take part in these services. Mobile Tribune. Religious Revival.?Our readers are aware of the religious awakening which has recently taken place in our American Babylon. Thousands daily meet in the humble supplication to the Throne of j Grace, for that mercy which alone can save, from | 1- .:? ft.llon mon Vnt milv ! eiCriHMIII? ?.'1111J >11 111 Clllf KtUVU uinui ??v j has New York been the scene of evidence of the j wrestling of the spirit for the pearl of great price, j but Philadelphia and Boston and other cities of l the North are experiencing the influences which are at work in the good cause. The latest report from Philadelphia chronicles, among others converted to the way of life, Edwin Forrest, the distinguished tragedian, who professes the change which is necessary to salvation. We observe in many other States, that the ministers of the Gospel are holding daily services for prayer, and Washington and Charleston are among those beginning to move in the reformation. Columbia Carolinian. To James H. Tatlor.?In the condensed report, by National Intelligencer, of the speech of Mr. Hamlin, of Maine, in reply to Senator Hammond, the following appears: "Mr. J. H. Taylor, of Charleston, had estimated the number of unproductive and indolent white men in South Carolina at the number of One Hundred and Twenty-five Thousand, whose grade of civilization was only one step in advance of the Indian savages!" In the report of the Globe, Mr. William Gregg was given as the authority for this statement.? You are both Northern men in our midst, and, admittedly, respectable, intelligent and active. If the statement came from you, will you explain why, and upon what data or reason, you made it. There are not 125.000 while men in South Carolina.?Charleston News. np -riir .Tt-tca It isnsinooilfir fact. \J\i\iurftuwo w? o , revealed in the last census of the United States, that while there are seven hundred thousand Jews in this country, only one person who is a Jew is registered as a farmer. So literally is the decree of their dispersion fulfilled, that they are strangers to that occupation which, above all others. implies aiesting-place and a home. 'For, lo, I will command and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations.' The Jews are traders, not attached to the soil where they are found, but ready on an instant to change their abode. In California they follow the universal rule. In all of the towns they are found in large numbers.? They nearly monopolize the retail business of the country. We have never known of a Jew who was engaged in mining, although there may be many such so occupied. The Mormons,?The news from Utah, by way of California, is to the 7th January. The Mormons if we may judge from their public speeches, were as obstinate and rampant for war as ever. A memorial signed by the members and officers of the Utah Legislature has been sent to Congress. This document recites the alledged wrongs of the saints, and calls upon the President to restore to the Mormons their lost property in Missouri, and | punish the murderers of the Prophet Joseph Smith and assassins of Parley P. Pratt. They 6ny that if the government will restore their constitutional rights, withdraw their invading army, and permit tbem to make their own official appointments, all will be right; but intimate that unless this be done trouble will come out of it. Death of Hon. R. L. Tllllnghast. A correspondent of the Charleston Courier mentions the death of thisgen'leman. who was a member of the Beaufort Bar and Senator from St. Luke in the State Legislature. The writer says : 'His death is a public calamity. He has long been known as a lawyer of high attainments, and his efforts in the Senate have given him high rank as a debater. One of his last, if not the very last effort there, was in support of the anti duel ling law. The petition came from Grahamville? a portion of his constituency?and well and manfully did he bear himself in its support. I mourn him ns ft friend. Mav his memory be cherished as of a man who lived up to the severest standard of his duties." The Florida War.?The Augusta Constitutionalist has been shown a letter from one of the citizens of that place now at Tampa Bay, Florida, dated the 3d inst., in which it is stated that an Indian woman and a negro servant belonging to Billy Bowlegs bad come into Tampa, who state that the Indians are willing to emigrate; and that Bowlegs had requested Jumpa to go up to his camp some seventy miles from this point, for the purpose of having a talk. Unclaimed Packaoes.?The N. Y. Express issues * supplement, a page and a half of which is devoted to tUt ?nume ation of unclaimed articles now in the office of the American Express Company, in that city. The number of the articles advertised is 990, embracing every imaginable species of personalty, all of which will be disposed of on the 5th of April, at public auction. A "Royal" Typo.?According to an ancient usage in Prussia, all the Princes of the royal family must learn a trade. It is stated that the Prince Frederic William, just married to the Princess Roynl of England, learned the trade of a compositor, in the printing office of Mr. Hauel, at Berlin. I@?.The Eeowee Courier learns that Mr. James Pelfree, a citizen of Pickens District, was frozen to death during the snow storm which prevailed on the night of the 8th inst. Weed's Patent Sewing Machine.?We have been often asked which is the best Sewing Machine in use, and to satisfy ourselves have spent some time in examining them all, and now give our opinion to our readers for their benefit. We purchased one of the above named Machines, and have tried it on every kind of work required in a family, and it gives the best satisfaction; doing its work very rapidly, neatly and stronger than j the usual hand work. It is much harder to rip i work done oi this Machine than that done in the i ordinary way. It is neat and tasty, being very nicely finished, and to ail appearance, simple, beyond the possibility of getting out of repair, by ordinary use. It is very strong and durable, and we are well assured one of them will not, wear out in years of constant use. It has already saved tailors' and dressmakers' bills' enough in onr family to pay its cost, and we think it a very profitable 1 investmer' to say nothing of its convenience and i the hours f needle work it saves a mother. We j most emphatically pronounce this the best Sew 1 ing Machine in use, and the greatest labor-saving j invention of the day. WHITNEY & LYON, Proprietors, 345 Broadway, New York. Sold by B. T. During the hole of the week just brought to a close, the market presented no new feature except during Friday and Saturday, when the demand was a little less active, and during these two days firmer prices were barely sustained, and in some instances a slight reduction was accepted ' on the part of sellers. A husband, brothers and friends mourn her ; but not as those without hope. "I have a trust iu God,'' were almost thelast words she washeard to utter. Released from her sufferings, she is one of the band, whose robes are white and clean: No earthly stain can tarnish them. But Heaven, and light, and happiness will be ever theirs. Her last words should be a source of comfort to the bereaved, causing them to make her God their God. To feel that he who gave her and took her; is too wise to err, too just to needlessly afflict.
