Salxdat .?Those who wore here on Monday lost know it, and to those who wero not hero on that that day let ua tell, that there was a larger crowd of people in Oraugeburg on tho afore-men tioned day than there has been in Or* ?jugeburg since Shermau's army marched through and burnt it. White and col ored, men nud women, old und young, thoso who paid four hundred dollars tax and those who swore that ono dollar and olcven cents tax would break up a poor man, in cart and wagon, in buggy and tho old time-vehicle, on horse, foot and mule, they camo, they crowded, they swarmed. Many a brisk penny was turned, many a dollar changed bauds. Many a man bought himself rich, und many Bold out for nothing?or credit. Tho tax office wns jammed. Talk about not collecting tax here, revolution and Ku Klux, our people have u passionate fondness for paying taxes. Tho Treasu rer's Offico was crowded, and the crowd there jostled and scuffled and pushed otic another in the eager desire to pay the tax. Many a poor fellow wont home unable to pay his tax?because ke could not get in to pay it, others perhaps for a better, or rather a worse reason; The pulse of trade was plethoric and ecstatic, stores wer? 'crowded, clerk's feet wore tired at night-full. Heavy in vestments were made in horse flesh. Auctioneers cried their wares and buy ers were told. The uoiso of barter, the tumult of traffic, the uproar of nmrk? t, the pandemonium of salcduy was every where, nud iu everybody. One thing wc noticed nnd we mention it in the words of the Committee of the Fair, as "highly commendable," therj 'was very little druukenness ou the streets. This was the most memorable and pleasant feature of the occasion. Let all praise ba rendered to the Town Council und to the people for this ! Corner.?The Court of Genera] Ses sions commenced its business on Tuos day morning. Judge Graham js look ing remarkably well nnd has entered upon the discharge of his duties of the term with the wonted ability, firmnefs and courtesy which has characterized his career us Judge. With ull the ability of his predecessor Judge Carpenter, oar present Judgo Hon. Hoheit F. Grab urn. evinces more of heart , more of sincerity, more urbanity. This portion of the First Circuit, is entirely satisfied with him, and asks of tho Legislature to re elect him to his present position. And our commendations of Jude Graham's career arc but tho echoes, as it were, to the praire bestowed upon him iu Charles ton by the bar and press. We think wc can safely affirm that Judge Gru ham will be re elected. K. 1$. Sea brook, Esq., is here again acting Solici tor. This gentleman is too well known here to need any comment from us. The Court has been occupied during the pn>t week with the criminal eases, none of which have I ecu of interest or importance. About the usual number of petty and grand larcenies have been committed and the perpetrators have met the u?uai fate. The case of the Stute against Reuben "a"l and Isham Paul for the murder of Jack t9nJ* wns heard on Thursday and resulted iu an acquit tal of the prisoners, whom the tAstinvm* for the prosccu .ion entirely failed to I connect with the deed. Next week will be occupied with tin civil cases. The Grand Jury returned true bills against the following parties : Henry Chcescboro, laroeny. Wo* Cantey and Friday Stuurt, grand larceny. Asbury Whetstone, e4. al , grand lar ceny. Peter Anderson, larceny. In the cub'js of George W. Sturgeon, charged with tampering with ballots in ballot boxes, the Grand Jury returned, upon the first indictment, "no bill," but afterwards, upon the recommittal of the indict ment to them, it was returned en dorsed "true bill." Two other indict ments against the same person for the same .offenco wcro returned endorsed true bill. The following cases were tried : State vs Henry Chccseborn, grand larceny, mistrial Wm Caotey and Friday Stuart, graud larceny, guilty.
