Why, on Isst Friday, the view looking down Main Street to the river was novel and brilliantly strange. Not only with us, but over the North and Northwest the spell was bitter and intense. Graham, a young man com parod with those who hare sat iu his seat upou the bench of South Caroli na, was sleeted at the last session of tho Legislature to fill tho un ex pi red term of Judge Carpenter, whose motorio career is part of political history. With ability equal to that which has so dis tinguished our judiciary in the past; and which has been recognized and bowed to by that galaxy of able critics? the Charleston bar, Judge Graham has filled his position, with credit to himself | and universal satisfaction to all. At the close of his term he must feel that rich est recompense which a performance of dutios over brings and which repays a deeper and truer satisfaction than the public approciatiun and plaudit. Iu these times when so much com plaint is made agaiust those filliug offices of public trust, instances are rare, where a general and felt datisfuctiun rewards the officer. Such is Judge Graham's position now before the people of his State, and a p.oud position is it to occupy. Amid the expressions of ap preciation of the people and with the con scious rcwar i of his own heart, his first term closes. That ho will be re-elected is almost a cortaiuty. It is duo to him self and it is due to this people that he should be re-elected. There is likely to be no opposition to Judge Graham's rc-clectiou and there should be none. The Legislature hy his re-election will do their duty to tho man who has been tried and found so well fitted for the position, and they will gratify tho peo ple of tho Stuto we know, and the people of Oraugoburg for whom we can speak. - Christmas, Santa Claus.?
