O O A. L ._ SATURDAY, SBlfT. 2, 18T1> AU Advertisements must Jm handed to the Business Manager before Thursday Noon. The Town Election. Id smother column will be found n no- | tioe for the holding of the Municipal Election of Orangeburg. It will come ' off on the 12th ioat. Aa it is important that we should have a Town Council that will be energetic, and at the same time thoroughly acceptable to our Whole people, it has been suggested tbat a meeting of all the voters of Orange bur g be called for the 8th inst., at the ?ogiuu Ball. The meeting will com tnebee at 7} o'clock P M.. and will con eider the propriety of, und probably make, nominations. So fa;- as our views are Concerned, wo think that it is important that a nomination should be made. Orangeburg is growing daily; her in tereata are becoming larger and more Varied; and her citizens should act so as to develop all of her bidden advantages ' und resources. What is there to hinder tier from being th e equal, in hygienic qual sties, to Aikcn, Greeuville, or any other place in the State ? Nothing. Her climate is aa pure and heaith-giviog aa that of any of the places mentioned. What is to prevent her from having a reputation as celebrated for health aa the 1 eat of cur inland Towns? Absolutely tiothing, if wc continue to place the right sort of men at the holm of our municipal affairs. ? ? ? us have energy m-d enterprise to direct our local govern ment. We want nothing like leprosy t<? rule over us. Iu a quest ion of such home importance to every man, let per ?->iial preferences a*"d prejudices be for g ittoti. Let all join hands together and work fnr the greatest good. Orangeburg is "comparatively young yet, but no Town iu the State haa made greater strides mi the p :ul to f..mc. And now she looks to her citisens, old and young j ?liks?, to do their tclole duty to her in this emergency. Wo repeat again the necessity of leaving politics and every other selfish consideration nut of this couteat. WUa' wc want is a good, and energetic Town Council. Let us have men whose interests in the growth of Orangeburg will be a guarantee of their perseverance in building her ap. The present Mayor and Board of Aldermen have done a great deal lor the improve ment and beautification of our streets, and if oar citizens will elect another Council who will exhibit the aame in terest in the prosperity of Orangeburg, two years hence our Town will bo love lier at ill. Let every one, white and col ored, meet at the Engine Hall on Fri day night, 8th inst. Let politics be for gotten, and let a nomination bo made tbat will redound to the welfare of our beautiful Orangeburg. 8?E Mr. F. M. Bnroburg'* notice of Kentucky horses and mules. Mrs. B. >I.
