Ball, Esq., is after them iu another eol uv.in. -Russell has a new barber with him now. This announcement will be gratifying to those who arc too lazy to fchavo themselves. ?-Orangiburg has a Temperance Society, be it said to her honor, which promises to grow into a 'larger ouc soon. We will give a more extended notice of its origin and progrers in our next. "--An editor who is a regular "Puul Pry," Bays that ''blue garters aro all the go with ladies iu his town." We would liko to kuow how he got his iufurmation. We are interested. ? 1 Churlio Colter, a youthful colon d . lad, stabbed iu the back, Eilly Cauimcl. Thursday last. The offending boy was taken before a Tiial Justice, wheu fail ing to cuter into a proper recognisance ho was committed to jail. -\Yu heard a gentleman risk a friend the other day uIf he wasn't fluid of music ?" *o which tho reply that '?Son:c of it would n nk; n Jcw.su k," ?was given. How wus fit at lor high? =-Tho pet baby oFtho editor of tho A.ikon J'<uiiial "had a birthday and cut a tooth one day last week." Wo can ?void auch scenes as this, because wo are ? bachelor, und of course?have no pet baby. -Th?? customers of tho Citizens' Savrugs' Dank arc r< quoted to tend iu their Prpt sit llot-ks to the Assistant Cashier, > r. Jas. 11. Tonics, to have them balanced to June 30th, and inte rest to thai date credited to their ac counts, -Wk notico that a number of our exchanges have copied our "peeling" of last week about ''bdotdtcka ; but nono of them will admit (hat they arc cursed with a similar melody. Conic now, brothers of tho quill, as Rill Arp would ?ay, "tote lair." Own up the corn and get to counting. Will our friend of the I'nion aud tho Suntter Actes begin first? JVous trrro/is.v -We have intelligence relative to the condition of tho crops front all por . krone of our County, aud not in many yoars has the prospect for an abundant yield been so flattering. Thcro is not quite tho area of Cotton planted that ? ' * i . . .i. ?_r ^MViw W ..148? J i--*? , w ?. ? - . , _ . . \t is in a glorious condition. The Corn crop will bo the best made in many years, if tho seasons continue to bo propitious. --D. Lor IS, nt tho corner, ha? water-proof umbrellas for sale. We bought onr fourth one the other day for (bis season. Eor our first three, we round friends who thought they had n bettet right to them titan oursdvos,? any how, they took them into their cus tody. Our last one iu all right, for wo have our namo upon it. Our friend. Mr. Helton Ecttcrson, said ho could jpiake it proof against larceny. We tried him aud found it just as he said. If a friend wants our umbrella hereafter, be will find our name printed on the in side in large letters, to staro him iu the face when he opens it. Wc would ad vise all persons who have been blessed with tho intimacy of too many friends of the nature of those who think it nil right to pick up an acquainleuco s umbrella to gotoD. Louis', buy one of his water-proofs hnd let Mr. Rettcrson have it for a few Uiiuuics. Do Ibis and loo 'eouls will, be made happy," to wit, that of Mr. B. and also of tho nur chaser. -We said in lasf week's "Orange Peelings'' that "wo undorstood there would bo a Religious Concert given at tho Presbyterian Church bttfore long." To our use of tho word "religious" as an adjective in this connection, wo under stand objections have beon thick and fast, tho would-be critics spying that Stored ought to havo been tho word. Now wo have no disposition to quarrel, as wo do not write for the Ornngcburg Newb to please the few. But wheu such ridicu lous objections as tho ono noted are urged against our writings, wo cannot forbear giving them a passing notice, and to show of nil the Shameless editors We have, yet tis true, Tliere are as bud abandoned critics too. Now we said "Religious. Concert" add wc meant just what we said : and we will venture to assert that every person possessed with three grains of common "mother wit" will say that wo were cor rect. Now "sacred" might havo been sweeter to euphony with tho few, but that would not have made it any inure correct than the term "religims." But wo will let Webster settle the matter. He says religious means any thing "concerned with religion} teaching or setting forth religion ; art apart to re ligion ; an a religious society ; a religious sect; a religious place; religious tears, etc. Sacred ho . difinca "as not profane or common ; as, a sacred place ; a sacred dag ; sacred service, etc. If this doesn't show that the two terms arc synonymons, th.cn wc don't know what synonyms arc. If it is correct, to say a religious society, a re ligious nhice, religious wars, &c., it is equall}' correct to say a Religious Con ceit, the only difference of tho two wordn depending altogether upon euphony On tho other hand, it is equally correct to say ?Sai led Concert ; but how iu the tiamo of common sense it cm be incor rect to speak of n Concert as a Religious one, w-j fail to understand, espeeialy when it is gotten up fur a Religious pur pose. But let us slop with this petty .stuff. We ought not to notice such, but some bow or other we luve d ?po so. Wc re collect having seen once itt school a boy's copy bull; in which the well known ridago, "Kvil communications corrupt good manners'' was written by hi.s teacher. Wc looked down the pngs at the boy's writing, and discovered that he had spelled communication ever}' time with a k instead of a c. Wc nskt-1 him "why he did not follow the copy?" lie replied "if my teacher spells wrong, that is t?r? reason why I should." Wc left the .Couth to bis delectable conceit. ??S> j - ?
