[ADVKItTIHBMINT.] To the Policy Holders of the Seen ~ rity Life Insurance Company An advertisement appeared in the editorial columns of the Obanokburo News of tho 16th inet , headed "The Southern Life Insurance Co.," certain portions of which I deem it my duty to notice. Iu paragraph second, tho following sentenco occurs: "Our people should know the fact, that after the war, every policy held by a Southerner in a North um Company was forfeited," and para graph third is as -follows: "And now they have the brazen nssurance and hardihood to send down here, whole swarms of agents to persuade Southeru men to go into their honorable Com pany !" Tho italics are miue. Iu reply, I have only to state, that the Security Life was organized in 1862, (after the commencement of tho war.) and therefore no ante-war policies held by Southerners in that Company could have been forfeited j for mo such policies ever existed. Secoudly. No agent was ever tent down here from the North to porsuude the people of South Carolina to go into the Security Life ; for of the ageuts rep resenting that Company in this State, not one is of Northern birth. Such are the facts. This Company has, perhaps, a larger number of policy holders in Orangeburg County than auy other Northern Com pany, and it might have been anticipated that these statements thus made will ut qualification, would be regarded by gene ral readers, as applicable to it, as well as to other Companies. Yet, although this is, apparent, mo exception has been stated. Further comment upon this point in unnecessary. Of the notion of those Northern Cotn punies which transacted business of In surance at the South prior to the war, I am, of course, not so well iuformed. I am, however, prepared to prove that the statement, that '"aller the war every policy held by a Southerner iu a North ern Company was forfeited," is not cor rect. W.
