HUMOROUS." \ Distant. Relation. An incident ocourrcd some time ago at Cin cinnati, on board tho steamer Buckeye, just as sue was about to depart for Ncw||Orlcans. A tall countryman, carrying a'pair of sad dle-bags on his arm and covered witb perspira tion, and who looked ad tllO?cl* he couldn't tell his head from a bunch of shingles, rushed into the c/ibin, calling at the top of his voice : '"What is Col.' Mclntosh ? Is Col. Mclu tosh on this boat ?" No one answered. ?"Well, then, whar is the capun? I must ?bco Col. Molntosh." On boing informed that the captain was on tho hurricane deck, our inquiring friend pass ed through tho orowd in that direction. ^"Hnul in the planks and shove her off!" sounded in Iiis ears just as he reached tho deck. "Stop her, Cap'uu?stop her! I am not going to New Orleans." "Ru'n out tho plank? Ashoio with you, then, quick!" shouted Captain Hartshorn. "I say, Cap'un, I want to see' C?l. MTn toah. I must see him." . "I don't know him, sir," quickly answered the old sea dog. "Wc can't wait?go ashore. Haul in tho planks, I say." "Oh, Cap'un, I must see the Kernel?he's a distant relation of mine, and I never saw hint in my life." Now Captain II. is a warm-hearted man, as ovcry oiie knows* The last appeal touched his feelings, and he kindly inquired: "How near of kin aro you to the gentleman that you aro socking ?" '?Why, Cap'un he is the father of my first child," "Cast off that hawser and let her go," were the last words heard. And tho boat and the man that was in search of liiH relative wended their way to New Orleans. BluHlng a Peddler. From one house in particular ho re ceived continued rebuffs and assurances that nothing wa? wanted?they never bought any thing in that way. Nevertheless he made his calls steadily with each regular round, till ho became a regular pest, and in reply to the in formation that it was useless to call, made known his purposes to do so just us often as he pleased. One bitter cold day the bell rang, and the good lady hastened to get her hands from the dough in which they wcro busy to answer the call; when she readied the door, thore stood the everlasting pcdlcr. "Any tin-ware to-day, ma'am ?" "Have you any tin kitchens?" "Yes, ma'am," and away he goes to bring the samples, chuckling at the idea that his zeal was so successful at last. "There's nothing," muttered he, "like hang ing on, anyhow." Tho tins were brought, and the pans wcro next inquired for. The pans wore brought, and other articles enumerated, to seven differ ent kinds, tiil a goodly portion of the pcdlor'b load had been transferred to the house. "Is there anything else you want, madam?" "Oh, no, I don't want any of these ; I only asked you if you had thorn." The peddler was fairly "sold," and for a moment folt like getting angry, but tljo idea rather tickled him, and ho commenced rc . turning his wares to tho cart, without uttering a-word. He has never called at that house Hinco, The (leorgin Legislature lias passed a bill preventing the formation of military compa nies.
