Tolleson was president of the Merchantile Banking Company, which did a collecting business for banks in oilier cities. A publication in the American Banker gave the Merchantllo Banking Company a bad name and destroyed its credit, 'iho banks for whom Tolleson had made collections pouoced down on him. He did not have the ready funds to meet tho demands made Sd bo went undor. A receiver was appointand Tolleson commanded to turn over the assets of the company.
