Tolleson was president of the Merchantile Banking Company, which did a collecting business for banks in oilier cities. A publication in the American Banker gave the Merchantllo Banking Company a bad name and destroyed its credit, 'iho banks for whom Tolleson had made collections pouoced down on him. He did not have the ready funds to meet tho demands made Sd bo went undor. A receiver was appointand Tolleson commanded to turn over the assets of the company. He had no asets iu . his power, custody or control. Judge Clarke thought otherwise aud sont Tolleson to jail for contempt. Tolleson remained in jail sixteen months Oud tweuty-ouc days.
