Although Sheriff L. C. Bennett, and his deputy, assisted by a large number of citizens, went to the scene Immediately after the re port, the negro bad not been cap tured late this afternoon. The girl was alone at home at the time of the crime, ber father being in the field at work. The negro, after literally tearing her clothing to threads, and failing in Iiis attempt, secured a pistol kept in the house by the girl's father and fired the shots.
