Tbe Tension Commissioner for Oco nee County will be at the Court House at Walhalla, at the Auditor's office, on each Saturday during Jan uary, 11)13, for the purpose of ex amining applications for pensions and attending to all oilier matters of business pertaining to pensions for Confederate Veterans in Oconee. "Class A-Those who. as a result of wounds received in the war, ce physically helpless, or who while iii snell service lost both arms, or bot li legs, or aro totally blind, whether the result of such service or not, or who are disabled by paralysis and are unable to make a living, and whose income, or his wife's, does not exceed $150. This does not include soldiers whose disabilities arise from diseases and ?-anses arising since war. except tliose totally blind. "Class B. -Those who have iost one arm or one leg and whose income, or his wife's, does not exceed $150. "Class C. No. 1 -Tiioso soldiers and sailors disabled by wounds re ceived during the war, whose income, or Iiis wife's, does not exceed $7.r,. "Class C, No. 2-Those soldiers whose income does not exceed $7."?, irrespective of age. "Class C., No. il- Widows of those who los! tlwir lives while in the ser vice of the state or Confederate States, and whose income does not exceed $100. Where the widow of a Confederate soldier marries after the death of her second husband, she is entitled to apply and draw a pension on account of the services of her first husband, provided she is entitled un der the other provisions of the pen sion law. Such widow must apply In her own proper name, but at the same time state that six; is asking for a pension as tho widow of her dead husband, giving bis name, com pany, regiment. etc. "Class C, No. 1 Widows who have readied tho age of fifty (50) years, whose income does not exceed $ I 00. "County Hoards cannot be too careful In these matters of 'incotno' or 'physical condition ' "lie is a very poor man whoso gross income from labor, rent and Other sources does not exceed $75, or poor lands, i! any, that will not produce this amount gross. Only drop those who have died in 1912. "Pensioners who move to another State are not entitled to a pension. Tho pension law provides that this fund s li ii 11 lie distributed April ist. Therefore it is very Important that you mail tho pension lists, with tho approved applications of your county, promptly on tho first Monday lu March. "Let county boards act promptly and fairly, Riving tho State Board full information, with COmpeltO re ports. Grant's family liavo moved to Walhalla and Rev. C. R. Abercrom bie and- family aro occupying the Grant old homo. Both families are highly respected and their many friends wish them much success In their new homes. Mrs. D. H. Alexander has recover ed to such an extend as to bo able to return to her homo in Toccoa, Cia. Her recovery of health ls de lightful news to her many friends. W. H. Talley and children spent last Saturday and Sunday visiting in North Carolina. Balis Burgess enjoyed an extended pleasure trip to the mountains a short time hack. Tlie many friends of D. I\ Grant will be delighted to bear that his health ls considerably improved at this time. Ho has been quite deli cate for some time past. Rev. C. R. Abercrombie bas been called as supply at this place for the coming year. Brother Abercrombie is ? very forceful preacher. Ills many friends will be delighted to meet him there, lt ls hoped that ho will have great success In Iiis labors at this place. Charlie Gram I il family have moved from To\\ v i I lo hack to the Cheohco section and will resido on the Townes farm. J. L. Talley was visiting in the Old Bickens section tho tlrst of the week. Mrs. .Julia Stanch, Ot tho Hetrick Hosiery Mills, was visiting home folks hero tho past week. Mrs. B. Smith, of Stamp ('reek, spent last week with her parents, Mr and Mrs. J. L. Talley. Miss Carrie Grant, ono of our charming daughters, is teaching the Tamassee school. Tlie new church at Salem is look ing fine. The roof will soon be fin ished. Tho church is quito an addi tion to tlie northern part of town. Tho stores in the little town of j Salem show many nico things for the holidays and "Old Santy." R. M. Lusk, a prosperous farmer of Bickens county, spent a short 1 while with his brother-in-law and j tho local writer of this place a short time hack. Mr. Dusk moved to Bick- I ens from this county some 1 5 years I ago, and ho has since been engaged ; in farming, meeting with great sue- I cess. He owns a good farm, drives a fine pair of mules and bas a nice j little sum ahead for a rainy day. Mrs. Mary E. Holden, his mother-in law, accompanied him homo to spend a while, after which timo she will return by way of Jocassee and visit lier daughters. Mesdames Burgess. Miss Bula ProflUt will closo her school at Smeltzer on December 20th and return to her homo in Green- ! ville She has made many friends here during her stay, and carries the i good wishes of many with her to her home. O. \V. will hold their an nual meeting (Salem Camp No. 474,) on Saturday night. December 21st. at 8 o'clock.
