On Thurs day of last week two stray hounds ran the fox lo Iiis yard, where Mr. Harbin's dog took up the chase, be ing fresh and eager, and caught tho fox in short order. Mr. Harbin has been unable to discover any trace of the stray dogs since, and having seen no hunters in that section, is at a loss to know from what point the fox was started, and is very anxious to know. Claims Sclf-lR'fenso. Clinton, Oct. 28.-W. P. Lawson, a fanner living near this place, was killed hore this nfternoon hy his 11 son, Robert Lawson, on one of the principal streets. The young man who killed his father ls about 2 2 years of ago and fired five shots Into the back of his father's head. A num ber of people witnessed tho tragedy and young Lawson surrendered al most immediately after the killing. I I The father died almost Instantly. Young Lawson, now In prison, says that ho and his father bad not been on good terms for moro than two years and that his father bad made repeated threats to take his life. He and bis father came into Clin ton this morning from their farms with a bale of cotton to sell. Both were armed and doubtless trouble bad been anticipated. The cotton is supposed to have been tho property of the younger Lawson, and shortly after their arrival In the city young Lawson was seen to be drlvidg the wagon across the square with the ? j bale of cotton in it. He was ap I proached by his father, who demand t j ed the hale In payment for rent. The ' j son denied that he owed any money, i and the father then demanded that I the son got down from tho wagon. ' j When the hitter refused to do so. the . father, according to the young man's > statement, drew his pistol and pre ? pared to shoot. The boy then I i brought his weapon to bear and fired j Ave shots rapidly, all five taking ef fect in the back of the older man's head. Despite the fact that the man was I i shot from the rear, the boy puts in a plea of self-defense and says thai if he had not fired, his father would have killed bim. The father did not Are a shot.
