Mrs. It. Callaway, milliner. -News of the death of IO. P. Wood was received in Walhalla last Thursday, and came as a surprise to his many friends here. Mr. Wood sustained injuries Wednesday after noon while sawing wood with a saw driven hy steam power near his home, and though everything that could he done for him, death came to relieve his suffering about midnight Wednesday. ll seems that Mr. Wood was sawing wood for his cot ton gin, and hy a misstep while at work his body was thrown In such a way as to get his left leg in front ?of the saw. and. unable lo extricate himself, his leg was cut almost en tirely off. He was al once taken to his home and medical aid was sum moned, but bis injuries were such that the work of thc physicians could only prolong his life for a few short hours. Mr. Wood was a man of many excellent traits of character honest and honorable in all his dealings with his fellow men, an un tiring church worker, and his life was that of a Christian. Ile was a member ol' the New Hope Baptist church and one of tho leading citi zens of bis community, ills death has taken from Oeonoe one of her staunch citizens, and there arc many throughout the county who will learn ol' his death with deep sor row. Ile is survived tty bis wife and eight children, to whom we join with many others in extending condolence in their hour ol' sorrow. The chil dren ar" Asa. Cra.vton, Willie. Clare. Durham, N. C., Dec. 3.-Burying here on learning of tho death ol her nephew, Mrs. Kinma Yearby, of Greensboro, N. C., died on the train as it was nearing tliis city.
