There is little old material available, only two possible mon out of tho dozen or moro old regulars needed having re turned. The now material is yet too raw to enable anyone lo size up the ' team with any dogreo of accuracy. It is safe to say that the Clemson athlotio spirit and McMakiu's coaching will produce a team that wil1 bo creditable and sports manlike, if not invariably victorious. Manager Rarksdalo is a hard-worker in tho 'u crests of his nine, and Capt. A. G. Ellisou will do his best, backed by a lovel head and considerable base ball exporionco, to run the games. It is hie;h time that a halt was called in tbe reckless cutting away of the forests, and it is to be hoped that the Con gress will be thoroughly successful in arousing the popular interest in tho work undertaken. Kew li m.-, representing tho F. Ii. Myers Company, . f Jackson, Mich., he vlei ted Greer the other day, and was very much pleased with the outlook fora successful plant. Concrete-stone hollow building blocks have been used for au iu?uitO variety of purposes and aro said to have demon strated their superiority over bricks. Tho now Kbodes Cottou Mill, at Liucolu ton, N. C., is to be built of concreto blooks on the ground by H. W. Heall, of ?Sumter. Although Humorous manufac turing establishments all over the North have been made of these blocks, it is said that the new Rhodes mill will be tho first I cotton mill in tho world to be built iu this way. It is well within the range of | probability that tho familiar, but ugly, brick cotton mill will soon give piuco to I tho handsomer and more durable con creto stone, An interesting feature of the work at the Rhode! mill is that twenty-five teno "m cul bouses, as weil as a large reni??uoo, will be built of this manufactured stone. Among the advantages claimed for tho material ia the fact that it makes a build ing cooler in summer and warmer in i winter, because of tho insulating air spaces in thc center of the blocks. Another claim is that a ten-inch wall of this material is strougor than ono of seventeen inches laid with brick. In tho selection of material for building cotton mills, the questions of time mid cost aro both important, usually, lt is claimed for concrete stone that whoio notable sand is available near tho mill sito, the blocks eau bo mado and laid for as low cost as brick, aud that they can be manu factured and laid in tho walis in loss time than it takes to burn brick.
