September 13, 1005. 37-tf Bolton Walker shot and killed Donnia Baker-both colored-in Union county, one day last week. Notice to Trustees. rri mst eos should bear in mind that tho JL last financial report of the school funds was based on tho constitutional throe mill tax, polls and dispensary pro fits, suire tho dispensary lias been voted out of this county it has decreased tho school funds greatly. In makir- . estimates on school districts this yj i wo cannot include dispensary profit*. Where thoro is no dispensary we need not expect any dispensary money. Last July my financial report of this' county included tho dispensary monoy. As tho dispensary has been voted out of this county tho estimate on districts will have to ho changed hy deducting tho dispensai y monoy from tho total appor tionment of each district. I am very sorry that wo cannot have ns long forms of school this year ns wo had last year, 1 am in receipt of a letter from tito Stato Superintendent of Education and he informs mo that local or special taxes may ho voted after January 1. Thoro ought to bo a groat many such taxes voted for noxt year. This is tho only plan under tho law to roplaco tho dispen sary funds in thoso count irs which havo or may vote out tho dispensai ?es. For tho last 2 or 3 years tho schools havo boon receiving from $200,000 to $250,000 from dispensary profits. This amount oxceeds either tho poll tax or local tax. Local taxation is ono of tho boat waya to raise school revenue, because it i eipures local m t ei est and enthusiasm. We agi tate this question now so that tho people may ho roady to voto by January. J. S. COLLEY, County Superintendent of Education. Novembor 22, 1005. Lewis Edwards was shot and killed at a hot supper in tho good old dispensary County of Abbevillo on Friday night by Charles Hunter-both colored.
