Tho following appointments bavo boon announced by Ceo. H. Kocstcr, Internal Kevuuuo Collector of South Carolina: George IL Huggins, chiof deputy col lector; .1. L. Little and L. Bf, Pouche, ofllce deputius; Miss Youngblood, ste nographer and typewriter;- Anson C. Merrick, J, II. Fordham and Goo. W. Murray, Hold doputios. Of tho abovo appointees J. II. Fordham and Goorgo W. Murray aro nogroos. These two appointments will bo heavy weight? on the shoulders of those in charge of the now movement, in South Carolina known as Commercial Democ racy or McLuurinism. lt has been tho contention of Senator MoLattrlu all along that tho augean stables should bo cleaned, and oidy representativo white men would bo put in responsible oflicial positions. Now, at tho outsot, all those hopes of better things aro grievously dis appointed. We have boon inclined all along to look with favor on tho causo of what is styled Commercial Democracy, nud wo still believe iii its principles, but wo can not close our eyes to the fact that Sena tor MoLaurin has made a serious blunder in meddling with tho appointment of Internal Bovenuo Collector for South Carolina. Tho appoint ment Of these two negroes will neutralize, if not wholly paralyze, his forces in this Stato. "By thoir fruits yo shall know them," and if this is tho fruit grown on this treo tho white people of South Carolina will have none of it. This remedy not only cures croup, but when given as soon as tho first symptoms appear, will prevent the attack, lt contains no opium or other harmful substance and may be given as conlldcntly to a baby as to an adult. For salo by Dr. J. W. Boll. Tho Governor and tho Farmers. In making the sugesti?n heretofore ro forrod to, us to tho matter of holding a | cotton growers' convention in Charleston (luring tho Exposition, Governor Mc sweeney lias written to tho linnea Path Cotton Growers' Association, which asked him to IsstlO tho call for a meeting in each county, as follows: "Please convey to them that 1 feel a doop interest in the farmers of our Stato and would be delighted to soo them amply rewarded for their toil. I stand ali all times ready to aid thom in any way in my power, tn regard to tho resolu tion and your request, that I call a moot ing of representative fanners, lot mo suggest thal it would bo hotter, in my opinion, for tho call to bu made by you and tho Cotton Growors' Association of Holloa Path, as you arc all actively en gaged and directly interested ill tho busi ness. Suppose you ask some representa tive farmers from tho up country and from tho low-country and tho middle sect ion of tho State to meet in Columbia at some lime in tho near future and at this preliminary meeting of these repre sentative fanners arrangements could be made to call a meeting of tho cotton growers of tho cotton States at tho Charleston Exposition. I am sure such a plan would have, moro inlluenee than for tho Governor to call such a mooting, for it would then come from thc fanners themselves, who would bo directly inte rested in its success. If you undertake to have a Cotton glowers' convention you do not want it to he a failure. 1 will loud you whatever inlluenee lean and co-opera to with you in every possible way to make tho con volition a success. And 1 am sure the authorities of tho Exposition will giVO you mat?riel aid in securing a representative gathering. I nm sure, also, thal you would have the aid and co-operation of the press of the Stale in hriiigin; to the attention of the farmers the importance and help of such an organization." -Columbia Correspon OIIOO News and Courier.
