Ill AVK received my instructions' to .procood at onco to execute tho Tax Laws of tho State of South Carolina, passed in 1806, by Assessing all Taxablo property in Picketts District, for the pur poso of raising supplies and defraying tho expenses of the State govern men . Therefore, I Dotify all persons liable to pay Taxes, that they are required to make their Returns to mo, under oath, for tho purposo of having tho some assessed. No return will bo received by mail unless sworn to according to law. The property subject, to assessment is-i 1st. All lands, lots and buildings in cities and towns; and cotton,. excluding tho crop of 1805; manufactures of tho District for sale; spirituous liquors manufactured or sqjd, and all brought into tho District and sold. 'Assessment will bo mude from 1st Octobor 1805 to 1st October 1800. 2d. On nil sales of goods, wares and merchan dize from 1st of May. 1805, to 1st January, 1800. Salos of cotton, except cotton seized by the United States Government or sto cn from 1st of May to 1st October 1805. 3d. 'Die capitation tax islovied on all males be tween twenty-one ?nd sixty years of ago, white and black. Employers may return for employees. 4th. On all dogs that were owned. 1st January, 1800, or that may be owned up to the limo of puy ment of Taxes.
