HYGIENE.-It is a well knoWn fact that filth allowed to accumulate in yards, in a great measure promotes fevers, and particularly is this the case at this sea son of the year. Decayed vegetable matter in gardens, rotten wood chips, old rags and all the other refuse which accumulate ab~out ti.e premises should be removed at once, and a plentiful ap plication of chloride of lime or other disinfectants be made. Dr. May er, Jr., the physician attending her, thinks she will r.cover. The Newberry (S. C.) HERAL.D gives a very pleasant description of a visit to Williamston commencement, mineral springs, ge, He says the young ladies were dressed in ."plain caliker" with out pullbacks or other hindrancy. We would advise the editor to make a visit to Georgia to a Female Commence ment, as he complains of the plainness of that one. He will see plenty ol floviers, laces and sich. And if the girl's fath.er is a big pfeacher, or a State officer, or statesman she gets a gold. medal;.-if a wealthy merchant, she gshonorable mention;: if a me THE "GLORIOUS FOU i1" was veiy mildly celebrated in this locality. Not a fire-cracker nor even a horse pistol was fired off in honor of the great day. A goodly number of Helenaites went up to Martin's Depot on a free train kindly tendered them by Col. Doda mead, and had a pleasant picnic and dance. The Prosperity people had a grand old-fashioned barbecue that waslargely attended. The colored people *for many miles around had a picnic near Jones' tan yard. At night they had a big "shin 'dig" in Singley Hall. Among the patrons of a paper there are tvo classes who run to extremes one the advertiser vho never thinks of. the notice lie wishes to-insert until the printer has 'justified' his form for the press; the other those who come for the pajper before it is printed. It would be I well to bear in mind that papers are I run on schedule time just as the trains on railroads. They are obliged tomake time. Asking a publisher to wait shows lack of consideration or intelligence, and calling for the pnper an hour or two be fore time is the height of folly, We must have system or mails would be missed and hundreds of people disap pointed. Such a one will make a good business man, and will succeed where ninety and nine of the.other char acter will fail. It is pleasant to say that Newberry is blessed with many boys whose.characters iTidicate that they will make their mark in society. Occa sionally, however, one is met with whose manners give no promise for the future unless there be considerable re formation. qoys of Newberry, remem ber that politesess, obedience, diligence and unselfishness go to make up the good man, and that these virtues must be practiced in youth. FAsTIDIOUs PIGs.-A good subsc.ri ber, good farmer and good fellow in every respect, who lives on the hill over the branch just beyond FIelepa, and who desres his name withheld, rep&rts that he has a couple of pigs who have gone back on the mother that gave them birth by renouncing the lacteal fluid of whib she had abundance for that fur nished by one of Zhe fery.r's cows. He has been forced to place the young epicureans in a pen in the hope that they will learn a lesson which will be to their profit, and that his prompt ac tion in stopping such foolishness will be' an example.to any other pig on the place, so that no other will turn up his nose at the nourishment legitimately proided for him.
