HYGIENE.-It is a well knoWn fact
that filth allowed to accumulate in yards,
in a great measure promotes fevers, and
particularly is this the case at this sea
son of the year. Decayed vegetable
matter in gardens, rotten wood chips,
old rags and all the other refuse which
accumulate ab~out ti.e premises should
be removed at once, and a plentiful ap
plication of chloride of lime or other
disinfectants be made. Proper regard
in this direction will prevent siekness.
KNIGHTS OF HONOia.-'The following

Sgo.-A colored woman liying on
Mrs. Herbert's place, near New Chapel,
met with a severe accient Saturday
week, the 29th ultimo. She and othef
bands had taken refuge from a shower
under a. tree. One of the h.ands had a
shot-gun which was accidentally dis
.charged with the rnugle in two feet of
this woman. The charge entered hpy
thigh and ranged down ten or twelve
inches, nearly reaching thc surface on
the opposite side, where the greater
part of the shot was cut out. Dr. May
er, Jr., the physician attending her,
thinks she will r.cover.

To THE Boys.-A polite boy will
make 4 polite m. and a gentleman.
Every one likes to meet him, all speak
well of him. Such a one will make a
good business man, and will succeed
where ninety and nine of the.other char

that Newberry is blessed with many
boys whose.characters iTidicate that they
will make their mark in society. Occa

whose manners give no promise for the
future unless there be considerable re

He has been forced to place the young

they will learn a lesson which will be

nose at the nourishment legitimately
