We have the pleasure this week of presenting the readers of the HERALD with a much larger and better paper. The idea of enlargement was conceived with hope-the material ordered with' confidence-and when the projqct had advanced so far that it must be car ried out, the panic came. We have had some misgivings, but the deed is done, and with undiminished trust, and a due amount of patience and per severance, we will stick to the ship till the reward is reaped-believing that like bread east upon the waters it will return after many days. The HERALD is before you, reader, and it would be egoti'tica' to say more. We merely add that, to old and new sub scribers-many of the latter having put in an appearance this week-our heartiest thanks are due. May our intercourse be as pleasant in the fu. ture as in the past-and our books show a larger number of subscribers than ever. In the next issue of the HERALD will appear a beautiful poem in two pars, entitled "Bessie and I." Another Western paper elares that "the whole race of dis nest politicians stand in awe of this eat movement," which is no doubt e truth. A St. Paul paper says it w looks as if the "potato bugs" rangers) will prove a lively crowd Minnesota. An Illinois paper de res "the movement to be an inde nd.nt one, committed to no one and no party, but comending itself to The Catholie farmers of 1:n ad County, Minnesota, although t members of the Order of the trons of Husbandry, express them ves warmly in favor of its princi. s, excepting its secrecy. In short, ere seems to be a general stampede t West in favor of the movement, ardless of religious predilections or evious political affiliations. In this State it is also fast assuwing similar importauce, its growth in e last year being iwonderful. In is County the number of active, ergetic members, we suppose, will arly reach one ti,,usatnd. Their terests are extensive and closely ied to all other interests, and as ch should be felt and appreciated, d the most liberal views should veru them, lest unhaply soneim sibility be attempted, and a means iich promises great good, prove a rious failure. Caution should gov a all their combinations, and just d liberal views to all classes and all krest be the chief cnd aimed at. lere is no reason whiatever why far ers should not combine to protect eir own interests, while those the true and the just are not Lced in jeopardy. There is no fear of the Lowrey hand iow, as all of them have been killed, -xcept Stephen Lowrey, who keeps dinself close; but a worse party seems o be among us. The Great Eastern 'ircus exhibited yesterday, 16th, at ,umb-:rton in Robeson County. and diled four men last night, one white nan, named Smith, a respettable mer :hAnt, and three negroes. The report :o-d:ty is as follows: Smith had never >een known to drink excessively; but x-as induced to do so by sonic of the .roupe. By some neans they had earned that lie had a good deal of noney about his person. The last that Kins seen of him lie was with some of he party, and becoming very much in :oxiCIted. This morning he ws found lead on the grounds, supposed to have >een killed with a sling shot, and rob >ed of all his money. Three negroes, t seems, had ben somewhat boisterous hiiing the day, and were induced after :he performance to take the train with he show. Their bodies, or rather part :f them, as they had been so eruel as bo give some parts of them to the ani mails for food, were found near the rail road to-day. This is shocking, but it is ,rue. A telegram preceded the train to RAwkinghml , and now the whole :>utfit, is under arrest. It is not known vet what will be dono with them. A iumber of persons lost their pocket books yesterday by swindlers, pick pockets, &c. It is hoped South Ca-ro liina with shut her gates, and not allow this heinous troupe to cross her borders.
