She then addresses the father and mother, and solicits their consent to the mar riage. If she meets with a refusal. she declines to leave the house, and such conduct is usually crowned with success. The parents of the young, man never put the young maidens away, if they still persist in their stay, believing that by doing so they would bring down the vengeance of heaven upon their heads.
