Th old State has vitality in hoj yet, mid no olioe presnt on this late happy and auspicious occasion, but foit a JoyouE elation and hopo for the future. Columbia has nobly done her part in making the Fait a decided success, and it Is but an act of Jus tice that the Society hia decided that- the next intnual Fair shall be held there. That any other idea should have presented itself was a wrong to Columbia and the Society, and wo hopo that the resolution of tho gen tleman from the low country, which now lies upon tho table, may never be brought up again. Let it die there. The most caln tral position is the proper place for the Fair, and that place should be a permanent ono, so that improvements and additions might bo each year added, and nothing be lost to the Soeloty, lut of this hereafter. Tile reports of ilte various committees which were read during the neelings which took place at nIght, were many of then very intetesting, and calculited to throw much liglt on the scieneo of Agricuilure and the Mechanic Arts. 1'ho public will be benefitted by the reading of them, the Society haYing orderedl that they be printed. SrMLxo A lltsnaN.-Let a woman scatter faster than her husband can gather, let her notions of duty send her gadding af ter everybody's buiiness but her own; let her religion be severe. censorious, and stand along the path of duty like a thorn-locust hedge on a garden walk, which pricks and tears everybody that goes near it; let her se, cure the art of making home uncomfortable, anlitl of tempting her husband to prefer auy other pinoe to it; let her use her husband as se.nslre4es (o pin-elushions, to stick pins in, and with ordinary luck she will ruin any commonly clever fellow in a few years. This is ef'ected partly by the action or a solvent, called the gastric juive, which exudes from the coating of the stomach, and partly by a mechanical inovenent of that organ, whicb chelris,. asitowere, the dissolving aliment. The Chyine passes from the stoniach into the duodenum, or entrance to tle bowels, where it is sub jected to the netion of the bile,'and the nutritious portion of it converted into a fluid etiled Chyle, whtch eventually be. comes blood. Now, It is evident that if the great sol vent, the gnslric juice, is not prodnced in slifficient quantity, or ir' the ineelatnienI atlion of the stomach is not stfllclently brisk, the first process of digestion will be but imperfectly performed. Iti also clear that if the liver, which plays such an i-,. portant part in c anging the nourisling portion of the chyme into the material of blood is congested, or in any imatural con diion, the second proce's wili not be thoroughlr aceomplished.
