Winthrop's Big Dining Hall Visitors Entertained at Supper.' Winthrop College, Rock Hill, April 2S.?Winthrop students have been very happy at meeting the many friends from other colleges who were isitors here during the oratorical contest. Almost the entire student bod}* Jtcwnaeu um contest, aim a i?igc uumber attended toe ball game on Friday afternoon. The Clemson cadets gave a beautiful drill on the pageant grounds, after vrhioh President Johnson extended an invitation to the Clemson boys and those from other colleges who remained over to have sapper with the Winthrop students in the dining hall. The invitation was accepted and the dining hall was filled with young people and the ocoasion was greatly enjoyed. Look to Tour Plumbing. Sheriff Sim J Miller, accompanied by Magistrate Julian A. Gayden, of Brcoklaud, made Ave arrests in the town of Cayce on Saturday night?all negroes. Four were anested for being drank and raising a "rough house'' in general, while one, John Daniels, was arrested for selling whiskey. Sheriff Miller caught John with the "goods on" a.'ter he had dispensed a pint of the soul-stirring fluid, better known ?9 "fuss X." A gallon demijohn containing one X whiskey, together with a quart of the same kind, was taken in by the officers, and John wa9 brought to jail to await trial at th9 June term of court. There are seventeen prisoners confined in the county jail at present, charged with all kinds of crime from murder down to petty tbiefery. There re four charged with murder, one white and three negroes. Among the wriaoners in iail are two white men? I John G. Week?, alias Harjy D, Beckman, and Oscar Strickland, charged with the robbery of the jewelry store of Lewie Hall in this town severil months ago. Weeks is a deserter from ^ the army, having left camp at Norfolk, ^ Ya., last, October. When captured he gave his name as Beckman and his hom-=t ?s Lansing, Michigan. It later -developed that his father is a well known farmer of near Willi9ton, Aiken county, and his people are well-to-do. An effort has been made, it is understood, to secure the young man's release, bat so far he has not been allowed to go back to the army. Strickfenl, who comes from Unibn, is said to be a former inmate of the reformatory at Florence. Another whitfe prisoner is "Billie"- \ Miller from Oklahoma. It is yet more then six weeks until 1 court convenes, and with the pace that has been set for crime daring the f 1*2.* few weeks, it is likely that many C m^n will be lodged in jail.
