Lawrence" Robertson Removed from Lexington? Two Preachers Arrested for Crime. Lawrence Robertson, the negro who is charged with breaking the lock of the Seaboard switch at Swansea, on the night of November 5, causing Train No. 12'J to wreck and causing tbe death of Engineer Prifchard, of Augusta, and tho serious wounding of his negro fireman, has been removed to the State Penitentiary from the Lexington county jail. Two other negroes, Faust Strother, of Lexington, and George Jamiscn, of near Swansea have been arrested in connection with the crime and are now in the: Lexington jail. Both -Strother and Jamison are preachers. Strother was at the home of Robertson on the night of the wreck and just what he knows about the affair has not been divulged by the authorities-. Tbis expected, however, that he knows something that will have an important bearing on the case when the trial is held. The arrests of these negroes were made-.by Sheriff Sim J. Miiler and Detective E, 0. Conklin, of the Seaboard, both of whom, together with other detectives, have been dilligently working on the case ever since the crime was committed. AX V ijeVma to be an da hand at the business, having previously served a threeyear sentence on the Lexington county chaingang for haying attempted to wreck a Seaboard train at Dixiana some years ago. It is claimed, also, that he placed a spike on another railroad, which was discovered in time -to prevent a wreck. .V While serving his sentence on .the chaingang, it is said that be deliberately took an axte and chopped his foot in order to keep frcm working. Sheriff Milier and the detectives of the railroad are bending every energyto secure evidence which will convict. / There is'a reward of $1,000 offered by the Seaboard for the conviction of the guilty person or persons.
