The bench show is one of% the "great big" features of the annual State fair at Columbia. Everybody loves a dog and the finest breeds are shown here fair week, beginning October 31 and ending November 4. From a mere handful during the first year the bench show was put on the i list of well bred canines has in- j creased wonderfully and twice have i the accommodations had to be en- | larged cn the fair grounds. Four classes have been arranged for the bench show: Class 1?Setters. j.'.VClass 2?Pointers. Class 3?Hounds. Class 4?Collies and shepherds. Dogs owner outside of the State, $1 entrance fee; except $2 in addition will be charged for brood bitches with puppies. Fees are to be paid when entry is made. ^ J. X. Harris, former president of the State Farmers' union, and now one of the inspectors of the department of feedstuff's. The prizes offered in the swine department are $10 for the first prize and ?3 for the second in each of the following classes: Essex. Bc-rk_ shire, Poland China, Jersey-Darao, (). " J. V.. Victorias. In each of these classes the respective prizes are offered for the best boar over two years oid: one to two years: over six months and under; 12 months old; the i est sow in the same ages: the best pair of pigs, one of each sex under .c,x months old and the best display," not less than ten head, thus giving each exhibitor cf swin an opportunity in several classes.
