Ye eity belles who stand and primp Before the glass each day, And try to put some color where The bloom has fled away, Behold your country cousin's charms And at her freshness bow; The morning kissed her lips red, While riding father's plow. I saw her drive the team afield, And mount the iron seat, As lithe as any kitten when It springs with cushioned feet, The city miss, with lazy yawn, And marble face and brow, Was sleeping off the last night's dance While Ceres rode the plow. The one is like a flower that grow3 Within a sunless room; The other drinks God's morninsr air That gives the richer bloom. The one may pound the strident keys And bellow like a cow; The other sings the world's bread song The while she rides the plow. When fashion's glided race is run And time has left his scars On powdered beauty, that once shone Like meteoric stars; Then who will press her painted lips Or breathe the lover's vow, While summer tints with rosy blush The girl who rides the plow! ?Eugene Secor in Farmers' Union Sun. In case of a burn or scald what would you do to relieve the pain? Such injuries are liable to occur in any family and everyone should be prepared for them. It was our pleasure to attend the county fair at Lexington on Wednesday and especially did we enjoy the day, as we were on our native heath and pleasantly mingled with friends and companions of our boyhood days. It was an ideal autumn day, and the people turned out from all sections of the county to enjoy an old-time fair. Whole families came in buggies, wagons and all kinds of vehicles. At noon they spread their elegant dinners and all ate and were merry. The people of Lexington are a noble, unselfish, hard-working and frugal people. They toil along attending to their own affairs, haye plenty to eat and wear and free of debt. The Fair showed the progressive spirit of Lexington's sturdy farmers and we considered it a great success. The exhibits of poultry, field crops, stock and household articles were exceedingly fine and would have done credit to any State Fair. The exhib| its were nicely arranged and interestingly viewed by the throngs of visitors.?Johnston News-Monitor. Beware of Ointments for Catarrh that Contain Mercury, as mercury will surely destroy the sense of smell and completely derange the whole system when entering it through the mucous surfaces. Such articles should never be use except on prescriptions from reputable physicians, as the damage they will do is ten fold to the good you can possibly derive from them. Hall's Catarrh Gore, manufactured by F. J. Cheney & Co., Toledo, O., contains no mercury, and is taken internally, acting directly upon the blood and mucous surfaces of the system. In buying Hall's Catarrh Cure be sure you get the genuine. It is taken internally and made in Toledo, O., by F. J. Cheney & Co. Testimonials free. Sold by Druggists, Price, 75c. per bottle. Matthew Berman, a merchant of Elberton, Ga., who was bitten by a mad dog on the night of Oct. 1st, died a few days ago, after an illness of two j days frcm hydrophobia. Mr. Berman did not become violent until a short time before his death. One great fear in his lucid moments seemed to be that he would injure somebody. At one time he broke I loose from his attendants and jumped through the window. He was brought | back to the house, but later broke j | away again, and running to the bath ' room drank water as if he could nev- j | er get enough. He seemed to be burning up with thirst. Later he asked that he be strapped to his bed, and this request was complied with. ! Just before he died, after one of his paroxisms, he asked that every one leave his room. Though strapped to the bed his fear that he would injure | some one was so great that he wanted to be alone. It was soon after this, while alone, that he died. Seven Years of Proof.
