It was our pleasure to attend the county fair at Lexington on Wednesday and especially did we enjoy the day, as we were on our native heath and pleasantly mingled with friends and companions of our boyhood days. It was an ideal autumn day, and the people turned out from all sections of the county to enjoy an old-time fair. Whole families came in buggies, wagons and all kinds of vehicles. At noon they spread their elegant dinners and all ate and were merry. The people of Lexington are a noble, unselfish, hard-working and frugal people. They toil along attending to their own affairs, haye plenty to eat and wear and free of debt. The Fair showed the progressive spirit of Lexington's sturdy farmers and we considered it a great success. The exhibits of poultry, field crops, stock and household articles were exceedingly fine and would have done credit to any State Fair. The exhib| its were nicely arranged and interestingly viewed by the throngs of visitors.?Johnston News-Monitor. Matthew Berman, a merchant of Elberton, Ga., who was bitten by a mad dog on the night of Oct. 1st, died a few days ago, after an illness of two j days frcm hydrophobia. Mr. Berman did not become violent until a short time before his death. One great fear in his lucid moments seemed to be that he would injure somebody. At one time he broke I loose from his attendants and jumped through the window. He was brought | back to the house, but later broke j | away again, and running to the bath ' room drank water as if he could nev- j | er get enough. He seemed to be burning up with thirst. Later he asked that he be strapped to his bed, and this request was complied with. ! Just before he died, after one of his paroxisms, he asked that every one leave his room. Though strapped to the bed his fear that he would injure | some one was so great that he wanted to be alone. It was soon after this, while alone, that he died. Seven Years of Proof.
